Lakers Rumors: Dion Waiters Reportedly to Meet with LA Sunday Night

The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly have their eyes on more shooting as the offseason continues.

Basketball Insiders' Michael Scotto reported the Purple and Gold are set for a meeting with free agent Dion Waiters on Sunday evening. Waiters played for the Miami Heat in 2016-17 and drilled 39.5 percent of his three-pointers.

This comes after Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel reported Heat president Pat Riley and head coach Erik Spoelstra were also set for a meeting with Waiters. Winderman noted Waiters was potentially interested in returning to Miami but was looking "for a bump" from the $2.9 million he made last season.

The Syracuse product found his shooting stroke in his 46 games for the Heat. His 39.5 percent mark from deep was a career high, and he tallied 15.8 points per game—just short of the 15.9 he averaged in 2013-14 as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Lakers are still in the middle of a rebuild after drafting Lonzo Ball No. 2 overall this year and trading for Brook Lopez, but Waiters is only 25 years old. He would give Los Angeles a young shooter who can take advantage of openings when Ball gets out in transition or attracts additional defensive attention when penetrating the lane.
