Robert Lewandowski has admitted he was angry with his Bayern Munich team-mates for failing to help him win the Bundesliga's golden boot, which went to Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the final day of the season. 

He told reporters (h/t Super Express via ESPN FC's Mark Lovell): "It doesn't hurt anymore, but it did at first."

Lewandowski continued:

He added: "I was disappointed with my team. That was the feeling I had."

Lewandowski was one goal ahead of the Gabon striker heading into the final day but failed to find the net in Bayern's 4-1 win over Freiburg, while Aubameyang scored a brace as Dortmund beat Werder Bremen 4-3.

The 28-year-old nevertheless congratulated his rival on finishing top of the scoring charts:

He won the award from German magazine Kicker, known as the Torjagerkanone, with Dortmund in 2014 and Bayern in 2016.

Like any elite-level sportsman, Lewandowski is competitive and driven to succeed both individually and with his team, so while the latter was likely more important, it's natural for him to want to have finished as the top scorer.

The striker could have an easier run at the award next year as Aubameyang has expressed his desire to leave Dortmund, per Bild (h/t the MailOnline's Andy Warren).

Unless he were to make the unlikely move of joining Lewandowski at Bayern, the Gabon international is likely to leave Germany when he goes.

Cologne's Anthony Modeste wasn't too far behind with 25 goals to his name, but it would take an even more phenomenal effort next year for him to top Lewandowski.
