Chelsea Transfer News: Cesc Fabregas Targeted by AC Milan, Latest Blues Rumours

Christopher Simpson

AC Milan will reportedly target Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas this summer once their takeover by Chinese investors is complete.

According to Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport (h/t the Daily Star's Jamie Styles), the Rossoneri are in the process of being taken over and it should be complete in March, with the investment set to give them the funds to compete in the transfer market once again.

With the new funding, Milan hope to bring in a marquee recruit in the summeralong with securing their stars on long-term contractsand Fabregas has reportedly been identified as a prime candidate.

The Spain international has made just 16 appearances in the Premier League this season and started only five of them, playing for 549 minutes.

Despite that, he's scored twice and provided six assists having created 24 chances, according to Squawka—that's a chance laid on for his team-mates every 23 minutes he's been on the field.

Bleacher Report UK's Garry Hayes hailed his impact from the bench in Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Liverpool in January:

The Spaniard lost his place in Chelsea's starting lineup this season as manager Antonio Conte prefers the solidity of pairing Nemanja Matic and N'Golo Kante together in midfield, the latter of whom has particularly impressed.

While Matic has also played well, it's likely a number of Blues supporters would welcome Fabregas replacing him in the side occasionally because of his creativity, not to mention Kante's ability to compensate for the Serb's absence thanks to possessing the work rate of two or three men.

Goal's Nizaar Kinsella believes Matic could be a significant loss from the side if Fabregas did replace him, however:

Conte's somewhat conservative approach in selecting Matic has worked thus far to give them an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League, so it seems like Fabregas might have to settle for a back-up role for the time being.

A move to a sleeping giant like Milan, where he would be the star, could hold major appeal, but he's equally a useful player for Chelsea to have around, and the Blues' almost-certain return to the UEFA Champions League brings the promise of more game time at Stamford Bridge if he stays.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea reserve goalkeeper Asmir Begovic in a £10 million deal, per the Mirror's Darren Lewis.

The Cherries have conceded 34 goals in their last 14 games in all competitions, and provided they stay up—which is by no means guaranteed—they'll look to reinforce at the back in the summer.

Begovic has only made six appearances this season having been restricted to playing the EFL and FA Cups.

He's only likely to get more game time at Chelsea if Thibaut Courtois is injured or suspended, so a move might well tempt him.

The 29-year-old is an experienced stopper who has made almost 200 Premier League appearances, so he could prove an excellent signing for Bournemouth.
