Chelsea Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Cesc Fabregas and Marcelo Brozovic

Christopher Simpson

Roma reportedly want to sign Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas in January, while the Blues could be set to move for Marcelo Brozovic if Inter Milan sell him.

According to Il Tempo (h/t TalkSport), Roma are "very keen" on the Spaniard and are "exploring the possibility" of recruiting him this winter. On Monday, Joe Mewis of the Daily Mirror reported Roma "are willing to throw Chelsea targets Antonio Rudiger or Radja Nainggolan into the deal."

The midfielder has made just six Premier League appearances under Antonio Conte at a total of 193 minutes, averaging just over a half hour on the pitch each time.

However, Fabregas has often impressed during his limited opportunities this term and did so against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday, helping to set up Diego Costa's winner within minutes of coming on as a substitute in the hard-fought 1-0 victory.

Football journalist Dan Levene hailed his impact:

So too did Chelsea boss Antonio Conte:

While Fabregas is no longer a regular starter at Stamford Bridge—the stability provided by Nemanja Matic and N'Golo Kante helps provide necessary protection to the back three—few midfielders in the Premier League can match his creativity, and he's a highly useful player to have around.

Indeed, per ESPN FC's Liam Twomey, Conte has already said Fabregas is staying beyond January, and his recent performances will only serve to earn him more game time over the busy Christmas period. So it seems unlikely he'll be moving this winter.

Meanwhile, Gazetta dello Sport (h/t TalkSport) reported Inter are prepared to let Brozovic go for £25 million in January in order for them to meet financial fair play regulations.

The 24-year-old has not always displayed his best form with the Serie A side but has impressed of late, per OptaPaolo:

Gianluca Di Marzio's David Amoyal does not believe he's as good as Fabregas, however:

The Croatian operates somewhere in the middle ground between the creative Fabregas and the combative Matic. According to Squawka, he has created 26 chances in just nine Serie A matches this season and attempted 46 tackles, though he has only won nine.

Brozovic is a good player and can get better still, but as long as Fabregas is content to stay put, it's worth keeping him rather than dipping back into the market.
