Looking to gain an extra edge, the New York Giants welcomed Peyton Manning to their training facility Tuesday.
According to ESPN.com's Jordan Raanan, Manning offered a few pointers for how the Giants could approach their Week 13 opponents, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Eli Manning spoke about his brother's visit.
"Yeah, he gave some insight," the younger Manning said. "Just some stuff that was successful; he's played Pittsburgh a lot over the years. Played 'em last year in the playoffs. So [he] just had a few tips or ideas that may fit into our system."
Peyton faced off against Pittsburgh four times in his 18-year NFL career, throwing for 1,042 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions. Most recently, he led the Denver Broncos to a 23-16 win over the Steelers in last season's divisional round.
Eli added that Peyton continues to follow the NFL in retirement:
He'll watch and send me a text after games. There are no tips. It's just more, "Good throw on this."
We'll get into an exchange. He'll ask and he's watching it so, "What play was that? What were you running?" But that, kind of, has always been the case. I think we still have great communication about what is going on.
Soliciting an opinion from an outside source about the Steelers defense isn't a bad idea by the Giants. Pittsburgh ranks 14th in opponent passer rating (89.9), and Football Outsiders lists the team 13th in pass defense DVOA (defense-adjusted value over average).
The Giants can't afford to slip up, either, between now and the end of the year if they want to claim the NFC East.
Beating the Steelers and maintaining its six-game winning streak would give New York nice momentum heading into its Week 14 clash with the Dallas Cowboys.
