Bennett Comments on Possible Extension

Sunday, Nov. 20

After the Patriots' 30-17 win in Week 11 against the San Francisco 49ers, Bennett discussed his contract situation, per Kevin Duffy of MassLive.com:

My money's good. I'm just going through every game and playing football. When they address it, they address it. If they don't, I'm not really worried about it. I have a diverse portfolio, so I'm not really tripping about that. I'm not really worried about that right now. I'm just trying to make plays and continue to play really good football.

Patriots Reportedly Want to Sign Bennett in Offseason

Sunday, Nov. 20

The Patriots plan to make Bennett an "offseason priority" and want to "lock him up for the future," according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Bennett One of Many Patriots Seeking New Contract

Bennett, 29, has registered 39 catches for 518 yards and four touchdowns in 2016. He not only played well while Rob Gronkowski was injured, providing the team insurance at the position, but he also proved to be a solid complement to Gronkowski when both have been available to play.

Rapoport added:

Still, the Patriots will likely have a busy offseason. A number of key players are also set to hit free agency, chief among them Dont'a Hightower, Malcolm Butler and LeGarrette Blount, with Hightower and Butler in particular likely to garner huge paydays.

That makes it fair to question just how high up the priority list Bennett will be for the Patriots, though he's made himself a valuable member of the offense this season.

Bennett's career has certainly taken its fair share of twists and turns. He spent the first four years of his career with the Dallas Cowboys, though his road to a starting position was blocked by Jason Witten. He signed with the Chicago Bears before the 2013 season and was immediately productive, hauling in a total of 155 passes for 1,675 yards and 11 touchdowns in his first two campaigns.

But in 2015 he had a down year, catching 53 passes for 439 yards and three touchdowns in just 11 games. That led to his trade to New England, where Bennett has once again been productive and, it would appear, has made himself an important part of the team's future plans.
