Henrik Stenson clinched victory in the Race to Dubai on Sunday, as he finished 12 under par at the DP World Tour Championship.

An impressive seven-under, final-round 65 was enough for the Swede to finish top of the European Tour order of merit. His victory was confirmed by the Tour's official Twitter feed:

The win will see Stenson pick up a cool $1,250,000 in prize money in addition to his winnings at the DP World Tour Championship, per the European Tour website; he eventually finished the event, won by Matthew Fitzpatrick, in joint-ninth.

Winning the Race to Dubai put the gloss on a tremendous 2016 for Stenson and is a testament to the tremendous consistency he's displayed.

In July, Stenson won his first major title with a victory in The Open Championship at Royal Troon, shooting a stunning overall score of 264, the lowest in the competition's history. The Swede also won silver at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

The only man who could stop Stenson winning the Race to Dubai on Sunday was compatriot Alex Noren, but he failed to feature in the shake-up for victory at the DP World Tour Championship.

It's the second time the 40-year-old has won the end-of-season prize, having previously clinched the accolade in 2013.

Per the National's Paul Radley, Stenson commented on the illustrious company he'd be joining when presented with the trophy:

"It's been a great year, the best year of my career," Stenson added, per the European Tour website. "I've always thought it was going to be hard to top 2013, but I think I've done that this year. Maybe not to the level of golf over six months, but certainly with the highlights of winning The Open, the Olympics and managed to win the Race to Dubai again."

Stenson has long been considered among the finest players in the world, and he's a man who looks ready to challenge the likes of Jason Day, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth for the major championships in 2017—not to mention remain a significant force on the European Tour.

Since winning The Open, there's been an aura accompanying the world No. 4, and while this year has been one to remember, you can bet Stenson will be insatiable in his pursuit of more prizes.
