After the best-of-seven series between the two was pushed to a seventh and decisive match, Sheamus and Cesaro wrestled to a no-contest due to referee stoppage Sunday night at Clash of Champions.

Cesaro clotheslined Sheamus over the barricade outside the ring. As both men were lying on the floor, WWE medical personnel evaluated the wrestlers and determined they could no longer continue, courtesy of WWE:

Both wrestlers clearly wanted the match to continue, but doctors and officials would not allow it, via WWE:

The match included a scary bump just outside the ring. Cesaro dove between the ropes and landed awkwardly on his head and shoulder. Somehow, the Swiss Superman got back to his feet and nearly won the match with a Neutralizer shortly thereafter. Sheamus kicked out before the referee's hand hit the mat a third time.

Goldust and Natalya were thoroughly engrossed by the physical match:

A no-contest was a somewhat underwhelming finish but understandable given how badly Cesaro and Sheamus had beaten one another throughout the night.

Cesaro and Sheamus engaged in a heated rivalry leading up to SummerSlam. In an effort to keep the action inside the ring, however, Raw general manager Mick Foley decreed that they would face each other in a best-of-seven series with the winner receiving a title shot.

The Great White jumped out to a 1-0 lead by winning at SummerSlam, and he also took the second and third matches due in large part to working over Cesaro's shoulder and back.

While the Swiss Superman's deficit seemed insurmountable, he began to chip away at Sheamus' lead. It started with a victory at a live event in London before Cesaro won a pair of matches on Raw, including the series-tying triumph just six days prior to Clash of Champions.

Although Sheamus blew a huge advantage, he remained confident entering the PPV that he would be able to stop the bleeding:

Meanwhile, Cesaro expressed excitement to write yet another chapter in what has been a long and storied rivalry between the two European Superstars:

It can be argued that the fact Sheamus and Cesaro faced each other so often during a one-month period that it took away some of the luster from their matches, but it was clear throughout the series that both men gave everything they had every single night.

Sheamus and Cesaro are two of the most physical, hardest-hitting performers in all of wrestling, and that was on full display from their first bout to their seventh one.

Both Superstars had gotten lost in the shuffle prior to the start of their series, so while the best-of-seven series may not go down as a memorable classic, it gave them something to do rather than toiling near the bottom of the card with nothing to do.

Perhaps Cesaro and Sheamus will finally determine a winner on Raw after giving everything they had Sunday night.
