Boris Diaw Reportedly Traded to Jazz

Matt Fitzgerald

The San Antonio Spurs have traded big man Boris Diaw to the Utah Jazz despite previous reports that he was set to remain with the franchise.

Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reported news of the trade. According to Wojnarowski, the Jazz sent the rights to 2015 second-round pick Olivier Hanlan to the Jazz.

On Monday, Wojnarowski reported that the Spurs were shopping Diaw as a trade chip after reaching an agreement with Pau Gasol in free agency.

On June 28, ESPN's Marc Stein reported the Spurs were "keeping Diaw" despite the fact that they could have saved $4 million by waiving him before July 1.

Although he was a key cog in San Antonio's run to a championship in the 2014 NBA Finals and kept up his level of play the following season, Diaw saw his role decrease in 2015-16. He matched a career low in playing 18.2 minutes per contest, largely due to LaMarcus Aldridge's arrival.

Diaw is a seasoned pro who should be fresh for next season after playing sparingly of late and should draw interest from around the league.
