Anonymous Scout Questions Eli Apple's Cooking Skills, Mom Chimes In on Twitter

Kyle Newport

NFL draft season is a time when all kinds of criticism about a prospect can come out as teams do their digging to get a feel for a player.

Former Ohio State Buckeyes cornerback Eli Apple recently found himself facing a rather bizarre critique. And it had nothing to do with his play on the field.

According to Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, an anonymous scout said he was worried about Apple because the 20-year-old supposedly "has no life skills. At all." On what basis did the scout say that? "He can't cook."

Oh.

Throw out his 4.40-second 40-yard dash from the combine, burn all of the game footage, ignore the fact that he was named the Defensive MVP of the 2016 Fiesta Bowl and take him off the draft board, because it turns out he can't cook.

Obviously that's just silly talk. Apple is among the highest-rated defensive backs in this year's draft class, so if the biggest knock on him is that he can't cook, then he must be doing all right. But for those who think the former Buckeye's lack of cooking ability is a red flag, Eli's mom, Annie, has a newsflash for you:

It looks like Apple is going to be just fine when it comes to meals.

Also of note, former Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott defended his buddy as well:

The cornerback's thoughts on the subject?

Only time will tell if Apple will live up to the hype. It's just unfortunate that he and his family have to deal with criticism like this on the eve of the biggest day of his life.
