Another exciting and enticing weekend in the Premier League saw Aston Villa officially relegated, the race at the top for the title close up somewhat and Arsenal manage to drop points from a winning position once again.

We've selected the best XI players to fit a viable formation for our team of the week, which this time out sees the offensive players take centre-stage in a 4-2-3-1. It'll be no surprise to anybody that our side features a number of individuals from both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, both of whom picked up impressive victories in their respective matches.

GK: Heurelho Gomes, Watford

A goalkeeper making a late penalty save to preserve a 1-0 win for his team on the road is a valuable commodity for any team, but Brazilian stopper Heurelho Gomes went above and beyond that this weekend.

The Watford goalkeeper twice thwarted Saido Berahino from 12 yards, diving first low to the right and then full-stretch to the left to keep out the West Bromwich Albion striker and keep his team ahead.

True, he gave away the first of the penalties with an ill-timed challenge on the ground, but he more than redeemed himself and also made a couple of other big saves along the way, particularly from Gareth McAuley at set pieces.

RB: Kyle Walker, Spurs

The first of four Spurs stars, Kyle Walker was tactically vital and superb in possession as his side ran rampant at Stoke City on Monday night.

The 25-year-old's blazing runs down the right flank cut open the Potters time after time, while he quickly linked and moved into space with those in the midfield roles ahead of him to keep creating gaps in the back line and feed the front men.

Defensively, he worked hard to get back into position and was rarely bested by Marko Arnautovic, who had an off night.

CB: Lamine Kone, Sunderland

Sunderland needed a big performance at both ends of the pitch in their huge relegation battle against Norwich City at the weekend—and they got one, with a 3-0 victory.

At the back, it was Lamine Kone who, not for the first time, put in a mammoth display for the Black Cats to repel any and all danger heading the way of his penalty box. His athleticism and bulky frame made him dominant, rendering the usually aerially proficient Dieumerci Mbokani largely irrelevant, while he also used pace to good effect to cover across behind his full-back at times.

Kone was aggressive, determined and kept his concentration throughout, which was vital on more than one occasion, with the game still seeming in the balance until Sunderland scored their third.

CB: Jamaal Lascelles, Newcastle

Sunderland weren't the only north-east side to pick up a precious three points at the weekend, as Newcastle United followed suit by beating Swansea City 3-0.

Jamaal Lascelles and Chancel Mbemba made for an inexperienced central-defensive partnership, but they coped fine with Swansea's sporadic early attacks, before really being on their game as a duo after the break as the Swans poured forward.

We'll give the nod to Lascelles over his team-mate, as he was rather more proactive with his passing out of defence and scored the all-important first goal of the game, nodding in from a set piece, but both put in the kind of performance that Newcastle will need to see more of to survive relegation over the last few weeks of the season.

LB: Aleksandar Kolarov, Man City

A fantastic display from Aleksandar Kolarov went largely under the radar on Saturday, as Manchester City ripped Chelsea to shreds and his attacking team-mates therefore took lots of credit and headlines.

The left-back was just as crucial, though, opening up Chelsea with his forays forward, combining with some intelligent passes infield and overlapping to provide crosses on more than one occasion.

Defensively, he was resolute against the threat from deep and tracked his wide man inside when the occasion demanded. It was a very strong all-round performance from the City man.

CM: Joe Allen, Liverpool

Liverpool fielded a much-changed side to face Bournemouth at the weekend but performed largely well and clocked up a 2-1 win, thanks largely to the senior players in the side, including central midfielder Joe Allen.

The Welshman was a menacing, terrier-like presence in the centre, biting into tackles and pressing the home side quickly, while also being impressive on the ball and in making use of runs from his team-mates behind the Bournemouth midfield line. He kept up the tempo of the game and kept the Reds on the front foot.

Allen is still facing an uncertain future with only a year left on his deal, but performances such as this one can only help his cause.

CM: Mousa Dembele, Spurs

It seems like Mousa Dembele must be a near-permanent selection in Premier League teams of the week this season, putting in tremendous performances one game after another.

The Spurs man was the controlling force on Monday night, showing all his usual qualities on the ball to hold Stoke at bay: strength and composure in possession, awareness to track runners, an ability to win back the ball and the technique and timing to split apart the opposition lines with his passes.

Dembele was the starting point for many of Tottenham's counter-attacks, and Stoke, like many other teams this season, couldn't get near him.

AM: Dele Alli, Spurs

Dele Alli's performance will be tinged with laughter and will live long in the memory for a miss Robbie Savage called "one of the greatest misses in Premier League history" and worse than Ronny Rosenthal's infamous effort—but that was just one second in an otherwise faultless 85 minutes on the pitch.

The attacking midfielder's pace and intuition on when to burst through the middle gave Stoke all sorts of problems; they couldn't track him, didn't close him down when he had the ball in deep areas and were ultimately relieved to see him subbed late on.

Alli finished with two expertly taken goals and consistently got himself into the right areas to find chances falling his way. Per WhoScored.com, he had eight shots of his own and set up three chances for his team on the night.

AM: Kevin De Bruyne, Man City

Manchester City's ability to tear apart Chelsea largely stemmed from the ability and movement of Kevin De Bruyne, who escaped his markers with alarming frequency.

The Belgian has only recently returned from injury but looks fit and in great form already, and he served notice of his intent at the weekend with two early runs beyond the Chelsea defence that should have resulted in a goal, but for the interventions of Thibaut Courtois.

De Bruyne was incessant with his passes into the final third, his capacity to find space between the lines and his quick footwork to evade challenges, with Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink praising his performance at full-time, per Miguel Delaney on Twitter.

AM: Christian Eriksen, Spurs

The fourth and final member of the Spurs contingent to make our selected team is Christian Eriksen.

A precociously talented player when afforded space and time on the ball to work his magic, the Dane was certainly gifted both of those in the second half by Stoke City, and he made them pay over and over.

His fantastic no-look pass set up Alli for the night's second goal, which killed the tie, but throughout the game he was cutting infield to spray diagonal balls, clip passes over the defence or make runs into the box himself. Eriksen should have scored when one-on-one, hitting the crossbar instead, but ended with two assists on the night.

CF: Sergio Aguero, Man City

There was plenty of competition for the striker slot, with Daniel Sturridge and Harry Kane both impressing immensely, but Sergio Aguero remains out on his own in front when it comes to hitting top form.

The Argentinian striker was at his irrepressible best as he made the most of City's dominance and Chelsea's lethargy, spanking a hat-trick past the Blues and setting up chance after chance for his team-mates, too. WhoScored record him as hitting all four of his shots on target, plus creating another four along the way for City.

He was unstoppable with his movement, sublime first touch and unerring finishing, and Chelsea were glad to see the back of him, subbed late on in the game.
