Liverpool Transfer News: Latest Ezequiel Lavezzi, Bartlomej Dragowski Rumours

Gianni Verschueren

The agent of Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi claims the 30-year-old would rather return to Serie A than move to the Premier League, amid rumours Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in signing the Argentinian.

Lavezzi's contract with the Ligue 1 giants is set to expire next summer, meaning teams can sign him to a pre-contract in January. As a cost-effective, experienced option, he's bound to draw plenty of attention, but his agent, Alejandro Mazzoni, made it clear he will prioritise a move back to Italy.

Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli (h/t the Daily Express' David Wright), he said:

Between Italy and England, Lavezzi would choose Italy. He misses Italian football a lot and he wants to go back to Italy.

[…] Right now we can't speculate on a turn of mind, but we'll see. Napoli loves El Pocho, I can see that from social media too. I know that supporters would be surprised to see him wearing the Juventus colours, but he still has two-three years of great football in his legs and he wants to play at the highest levels.

The agent also refused to rule out a contract renewal with PSG, although Lavezzi is widely expected to leave the French capital. The former Napoli man has made just three Ligue 1 starts so far this season, per WhoScored.com, and his role will only decrease as time goes on.

Lavezzi has flashed his talent at times this season, but Les Parisiens have a wealth of options out wide and have mainly used the Argentina international as a bench option. It's been a bit of a fall from grace for a player who started the final of last summer's Copa America against Chile.

He remains a versatile, speedy winger with plenty of trickery and scoring potential, even if his best days may be behind him. Lavezzi was never a superstar, but until recently he was a valued starter and a difference-maker.

Here's a look at some of his highlights:

A move back to Serie A makes sense for Lavezzi―it's where he enjoyed his greatest individual successes and a place where he's still quite popular. Italian defences tend to press less high up the pitch and sit around their own box, and his short-area quickness and dribbling skills are the perfect tools to unlock such defences.

Liverpool's current squad lacks difference-makers in the wide area, and while Lavezzi wouldn't be the class option fans are likely hoping for, he holds some value as a free agent with bags of experience. It's never a bad idea to sign a cheap, proven player who may have plenty left in the tank.

But a move to Italy makes more sense for Lavezzi, and in all likelihood, the Reds will turn toward younger targets who can still grow with the squad.

You may have never heard of Bartlomej Dragowski before, but the young Polish goalkeeper is quickly gaining quite a following in scouting circles, and the Daily Mail's Simon Jones believes both Liverpool and Arsenal are following the teenager.

Dragowski is already the regular starter for his club Jagiellonia Bialystok and Poland's Under-21 national team and has made 19 starts on the club level this season, per WhoScored.com, despite being just 18 years old.

Bialystok reportedly value the talented youngster at £4 million, a potential bargain for a player who looks like he could be developed into a superstar.

Dragowski's situation can be somewhat compared to that of Thibaut Courtois when he started making a name for himself with Belgian side Racing Genk. Like Courtois, he's a young player with excellent athleticism and technique and a remarkable amount of experience already.

Here are some of his highlights:

Chelsea developed Courtois slowly, immediately loaning him out to Atletico Madrid. Dragowski needs more seasoning than Courtois did back then, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to sign him and keep him at his current club on loan where he can play plenty of minutes.

Liverpool's current starter Simon Mignolet has already made his fair share of mistakes this season, and while an experienced replacement should arrive shortly, it's never a bad idea to start looking to the future. Dragowski likely won't make an impact on the highest level for years, but he could be a worthwhile investment in January.
