Geovany Soto Clobbers Home Run over Green Monster, Breaks Car Window

Dan Carson

Like some kind of guerrilla car insurance commercial, Geovany Soto smashed a home run out of Fenway Park on Tuesday night and crunched the windshield of a car atop the surrounding parking garage.

The Chicago White Sox catcher's moonshot came at the top of the seventh inning when he teed off on a belt-high Justin Masterson meatball over the middle of the plate.

The ball cleared the Green Monster with ease, and broadcasters later revealed it had splashed down directly on the windshield of a Volkswagen outside of the stadium.

It left a petite mark:

This was about the way of things for the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday. They fell 9-4 at home against another sub-.500 team. Soto went 2-for-2 with three walks on the night, chalking up a homer and three RBI.

He reached base five times for just the second time his career, according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Daryl Van Schouwen.

So...great night for Soto. Bad night for one Volkswagen owner.

Dan is on Twitter. "Protect yourself from mayhem: mayhem like baseballs." - new Allstate commercial, probably.
