Renowned rapper and pop culture icon Sean "Diddy" Combs was arrested Monday, June 22, on UCLA's campus for assault with a deadly weapon following an alleged altercation with Bruins assistant coach Sal Alosi—whom the NFL suspended for tripping a player during a 2010 game against the Miami Dolphins. The dispute allegedly occurred after Alosi was hard on Diddy's son, Justin Combs, during Bruins practice.

Diddy Case Referred to L.A. City Attorney
Thursday, July 2
Nathan Fenno of the Los Angeles Times reported "no felony charges for Sean Combs in UCLA kettlebell incident. Case referred to L.A. City Attorney to decide on charging with misdemeanor."
On June 23, Tracy Pierson of Scout.com reported the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office will pursue charges against Diddy following the altercation with Alosi:
Sources inside the LADA’s office believe the case against Diddy is a good, pursuable one. As we’ve reported, UCLA’s athletic facility is equipped with security cameras, and reportedly the video footage of the incident is considered strong evidence. Campus police arrested Diddy Monday after they reviewed video.
A source also indicated that there are other videos taken from personal cell phones of the incident. It's anticipated that those videos will be made public fairly soon.
Diddy's Son Comments on Father's Arrest

Quincy Brown was asked about his father's arrest during an interview before the BET Awards, calling the incident a "hiccup," per the Associated Press:
Details of Diddy's Alleged Altercation with Alosi Emerge
Tuesday, June 23
TMZ reported the initial arrest, indicating Alosi chewed out defensive back Justin Combs, Diddy's son, during strength and conditioning drills while Diddy bore witness.
TMZ added the coach was "riding Combs hard," screaming, "I don't care if your dad's here. This is UCLA. I'm going to treat you just like I treat everyone else." After the practice session ended, Diddy allegedly went to the coach's office in the school's athletic facility and grabbed him. According to a release on the university's official website, the weapon Diddy used was a kettlebell.
"The various accounts of the event and charges that are being reported are wholly inaccurate," Nathalie Moar, a rep for Combs Enterprises, said in a statement to the Associated Press (via ESPN.com). "What we can say now is that any actions taken by Mr. Combs were solely defensive in nature to protect himself and his son."
"We are confident that once the true facts are revealed, the case will be dismissed," the statement continued.
Pierson previously reported on June 23 that Diddy and Combs walked into Alosi's office around noon, and Diddy began accosting the coach. Alosi instructed interns to alert security, and Diddy came around the desk, saying he would contact security from the coach's desk phone. Alosi told Combs to get his father out of the office, but Diddy allegedly walked into the coach's hand, telling Alosi not to put hands on him, according to the report.
That was when Diddy allegedly attacked Alosi, as noted in the report. The staff eventually removed him from Alosi's office into the weight room, where Diddy allegedly picked up the kettlebell, swinging it at an intern, according to Scout.com.
Alosi had scratches on his face, as stated in the report, and his shirt was ripped due to the altercation.
Amy Powell of ABC7 in Los Angeles provided a picture of Diddy in the police vehicle:
Diddy was later charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of making terrorist threats and one count of battery, as tweeted by Ryan Kartje of the Orange County Register. After posting bail, he will return to court July 13, according to Joey Kaufman of the Register.
The release included a statement from Bruins head coach Jim Mora: "I'm thankful that our staff showed the level of professionalism that they did in handling this situation. This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved. While UCPD continues to review this matter, we will let the legal process run its course and refrain from further comment at this time."
Justin Combs, a rising redshirt junior who is listed at 5'7" and 170 pounds, has appeared in seven games for the Bruins. Ourlads does not list him on UCLA's current two-deep depth chart at the cornerback position. His playing time therefore figures to be sparse, save perhaps for sub-packages.
