Former NBA player Javaris Crittenton has been sentenced to 23 years in prison after accepting a plea deal in a 2011 murder case.
According to WSBTV.com, the former Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies and Washington Wizards guard pleaded guilty to murder in the shooting death of Julian Jones in Atlanta.
Per Tom Jones of WSB-TV, the former Georgia Tech star was remorseful for his actions:
Prosecutors claimed that Crittenton accidentally killed Jones while attempting to shoot a man who had allegedly stolen from him, according to WSBTV.com.
The 27-year-old Atlanta native was the 19th overall pick by the Lakers in the 2007 NBA draft, but he failed to live up to expectations.
In just two NBA seasons, he averaged roughly five points, two assists and two rebounds per game.
