The Euro 2016 qualifiers were packed with goals on Friday, as a number of nations took one step further forward to the championship finals. 

England secured an impressive win against Lithuania at Wembley, with Premier League marksmen Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Harry Kane all finding the net.

There were wins for the Three Lions' main group rivals of Slovenia and Switzerland, but Roy Hodgson's men comfortably lead Group E.

There was also an important 1-0 win for Spain against the Ukraine in Group C as the former champions look to stay in touch with the top of the table.

Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Harry Kane 

England recorded one of their most impressive wins in recent memory as they steamrollered Lithuania at Wembley.

The charge was led by Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney, who scored once, assisted for Raheem Sterling's first international goal and hit the woodwork twice. 

But the headlines will surely be aimed at the boy wonder of English football—as Harry Kane made an immediate impact on his international debut.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker replaced Rooney with 20 minutes left on the clock but took just 80 seconds to find the back of the net and send the home fans into rapture.

It will surely go down as one of those moments where English fans will remember where they were when Kane grabbed his first goal for the country. It appears that many more strikes are to follow. 

The striker was placed perfectly at the back post for his goal and squeezed his header in as he met the ball. 

Kane currently has 18 goals from his 26 EPL appearances this term, per Squawka.com, and he is threatening to win the PFA Player of the Year award after a magnificent campaign.

And BBC Match of the Day's Gary Lineker waxed lyrical about the player's predatory nature and humorously suggested Kane will soon break a long-standing goal record:

The crowd had been calling for Kane's introduction for most of the match, as the player warmed up on the touchline in anticipation of his debut.

And he replaced the man who led England from the front on Friday after a vintage performance from captain Rooney.

Rooney's own personal form has dramatically improved in the past few weeks after moving back to the striker role at United.

Louis van Gaal has seen fit to restore the player to his favoured position, and the Merseysider is now playing with a huge smile on his face.

Of course, Rooney has qualities in different positions, but there is no questioning where he really should be playing at present.

Wazza exploded into life from the first whistle, hitting the post as early as the third minute. His attempt beat the goalkeeper, but the ball rolled across the area and away to safety, much to Rooney's displeasure.

But just three minutes later, the striker grabbed his goal after excellent work from Danny Welbeck, who was named as the man of the match on the night. 

The future seems incredibly bright for Roy Hodgson's attacking unit, with Daniel Sturridge not even present because of injury.

Welbeck had a fabulous game and thoroughly justified his selection, but the time will come when the manager cannot deny an axis of Rooney and Kane.

Kane is a natural forward who can both run in behind and hold the ball up to bring others into play. He seems to be the perfect partner for Rooney over the next few seasons and will eventually take the legendary striker's goalscoring responsibilities in the seasons to come.
