Johnson Shot In Arm, Released from Hospital

Sunday, March 8

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the news:

Rich Cimini of ESPN reported the shooting was a drive-by and Johnson took a bullet in the shoulder. According to Glazer, Johnson said on Monday that there was "luckily no damage."

Johnson was eventually released from the hospital without requiring surgery, via Rapoport. Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News provided comment from Johnson's representative, who said "he was released from hospital yesterday & is doing well." ... "Expected to make a quick & full recovery."

According to TMZ.com, "Sources close to Johnson tell us the former NY Jets and Tennessee Titans player was returning from a concert and was heading to a recording studio when he was shot."

Brian Costello of the New York Post noted on Monday that Johnson was "uncooperative" at the scene, per the police report.

Cimini added, "Detectives believe Jeep was intended target, but can't say if occupants of vehicle were specifically targeted, per cops."

Steven Lemongello of the Orlando Sentinel provided additional details on the situation, including the identity of the deceased victim:

Deputies responded to a shooting call and arrived to find a Jeep the driver dead inside and two other men with gunshot wounds on the sidewalk. The victims said that an unknown vehicle pulled up beside them at the red light and opened fire into the Jeep, deputies said. The deceased driver was identified as Dreekins Oriko Johnson, 28. The two living victims, Reggie Johnson and Chris Johnson, both 29, were taken to a hospital in stable condition. Reggie Johnson was shot in the shoulder, hand and leg, while Chris Johnson was shot in the shoulder.

Johnson, 29, is a free agent after the Jets declined his option for 2015 last month. He rushed for a career-low 663 yards and one touchdown last season, breaking a streak of six straight years with at least 1,000 rushing yards.

At this time, police have not provided further details regarding what led to the shooting. There is also no word on any suspects, as the investigation is ongoing.
