Georgia Football: 5 Commits Who Will Start a Game in 2015 for the Bulldogs

Brian Jones

The Georgia Bulldogs enter the 2015 season with high expectations, and a lot of it has to do with what they were able to accomplish last season.

With a 10-3 mark in 2014, the Bulldogs will be expected to match that win total next season, but they will also be expected to win the SEC and make it to the College Football Playoff.

The Bulldogs won 10 games last year because of young players like running back Nick Chubb, defensive back Dominick Sanders and tight end Jeb Blazevich stepping up when their number was called. The same thing will have to happen in 2015, and the Bulldogs might have a more talented class coming in this upcoming season than what they had in 2014.

Here’s a look at five commits who will start a game for the Bulldogs in 2015.

Trent Thompson

247 Sports

If there’s one commit that will likely start more than one game this year, it would have to be Trent Thompson.

247 Sports' No. 1 prospect committed to the Bulldogs back in August, and he has a chance to be a dominant force right out of the gate.

Thompson has great strength, can explode off of the ball and he has a high motor. When he arrives on campus, he could very well be the best defensive lineman on the roster.

With Mike Thornton and Toby Johnson graduated, Thompson has a chance to be the No. 1 defensive tackle on the roster, and fans won’t be disappointed once they see him in action.

Terry Godwin

247 Sports

The most versatile recruit the Bulldogs have is Terry Godwin, and he is going to see action on the field whether it’s offense or defense.

247 Sports has Godwin listed as the No. 1 athlete in the nation, and he can play cornerback and wide receiver at an elite level.

The Bulldogs do need help at the cornerback position since Damian Swann has graduated, but the Bulldogs also need an impact wide receiver to help the new quarterback get comfortable as quickly as possible.

Odds are Godwin will start at cornerback because the Bulldogs do have Malcolm Mitchell and Justin Scott-Wesley for receivers. But with the health status of those two being shaky, Godwin will likely get a look at receiver during fall camp.

Jonathan Ledbetter

247 Sports

Thompson will no doubt see some action this fall, but he will have some competition.

Jonathan Ledbetter is listed as the No. 5 defensive tackle prospect in the nation, according to 247 Sports, but he can also play defensive end.

Ledbetter is athletic, has a great frame and quick hands. He will find his way on the defensive line, but the question is where?

Sterling Bailey and Josh Dawson will return at defensive end, and it was mentioned earlier, the top two defensive tackles will not return in 2015. Expect Ledbetter to start at defensive tackle along with Thompson, but he will also see some work at defensive end.

Rashad Roundtree

247 Sports

The safety position is set with Sanders and Quincy Mauger; however, Rashad Roundtree will get some looks in fall camp.

Roundtree is the fifth-best safety in the country, per 247 Sports, and he’s a big, physical playmaker.

Sanders and Mauger may be the starters, but defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt won’t shy away from making changes if younger players are making an impact. Roundtree is smart, and he plays with discipline, which are two things Pruitt likes.

Thompson and Godwin got a lot of attention this recruiting season, but Roundtree could turn out to be the best of the bunch.

Jackson Harris

247 Sports

Blazevich had a strong freshman season, and he looks to have a great career at UGA. But the Bulldogs can never have too many tight ends, and Jackson Harris will be one that starts a game in 2015.

The fifth-best tight end prospect in the nation, according to 247 Sports, has enrolled early so he can take part in spring practice and be more prepared when fall camp arrives.

Because of his size (6’6’’, 250 lbs), Harris is a mismatch for opposing defenders. His hands could be better, but that will come with more reps.

Whoever is the new quarterback will need as much help as he can get when it comes to weapons. Having Harris and Blazevich along the line will only be beneficial to the entire offense.
