AJ Lee vs. Nikki Bella: Winner and Reaction from 2014 Survivor Series

Mike Chiari

Nobody has cumulatively held the Divas Championship longer than AJ Lee's 400-plus days, but that didn't stop Nikki Bella from beating WWE's Black Widow to become the new Divas champion at Survivor Series.

That match was over nearly as quickly as it began. Nikki's sister, Brie, distracted and then kissed AJ on the apron. Shortly thereafter, Nikki hammered AJ with a vicious forearm before delivering the Rack Attack for the win:

Jason Solomon of PWMania.com timed the match at a little under 35 seconds:

AJ is a three-time Divas champion, and she has undoubtedly been the most dominant female wrestler in WWE over the past two years. Nikki was hoping to put a stop to that, and that is precisely what she did by winning the Divas Championship for the second time in her career.

Nikki became the No. 1 contender after winning a battle royal on SmackDown. In addition to that, though, Nikki has enjoyed the services of Brie as her personal assistant since defeating her at Hell in a Cell.

There is no question that Nikki has taken full advantage of the situation by doing everything in her power to embarrass Brie. As seen in this photo courtesy of the Bella Twins' Twitter account, Nikki has treated her sister as a servant:

She has also forced Brie to get involved in her matches and do much of her dirty work for her. That included ordering Brie to slap AJ despite her apprehension.

Nikki even went so far as to have Brie dress up like AJ, as evidenced by this WWE Instagram photo:

That resulted in Nikki and Brie having a match together, but Brie grew tied of Nikki's bullying, so she rolled her up to pick up the victory. This predictably infuriated Nikki, so she proceeded to attack her sister.

Although AJ made the save, she also made it clear that she had no allegiances, as she took out Brie as well. After that altercation, Brie felt as though there wasn't anyone she could count on:

Because of that, there was a great deal of uncertainty regarding what type of role Brie might ultimately play in the match. One school of thought was that she would help Nikki since she was bound to do so as a personal assistant, but Brie turning on Nikki to teach her a lesson was also something worth considering.

When push came to shove, though, it was Nikki who came out on top and ended AJ's reign. The feud between AJ and Nikki left something to be desired leading up to Survivor Series, and that continued into their title match. It's a shame because both are talented workers.

AJ has been putting on solid matches for quite some time, while Nikki hasn't received enough credit for how far she has come from an in-ring perspective over the years.

Now that the Survivor Series match has come and gone, it will be interesting to see what is next for the Divas Championship. Since Brie has been so heavily involved with this angle, though, it wouldn't be a surprise to see her get the next crack at the butterfly belt.
