The Brazilian has a problem with his left ankle and he will not make the trip to Madrid as a precaution

Luis Enrique has named an 18 man squad with Dani Alves and Rafinha back.

It's the second notable injury concern for Neymar in recent months. The other of course surrounded the broken vertebra he suffered during the World Cup. It happened in the quarterfinals and Brazil proceeded to lose its next two matches by a combined score of 10-1.

After some initial fear about the extent of the damage, he was able to make a full recovery ahead of the new club campaign. Soriebah Kajue of the Daily Mirror passed along his comments as he neared the end of rehab and his outlook was positive.

"I am recovering bit by bit from the injury and I will arrive in Barcelona at 100 percent," he said. "I want to have a good season and I would like to help my team-mates get good results."

He's followed through on those words, displaying strong form during the early portion of the campaign. The 22-year-old superstar has also continued to thrive at the international level.

Max Bretos of ESPN noted a stat that illustrates exactly how important Neymar has been to Brazil despite still being a relatively young player:

So for good reason the South American powerhouse national team will also be monitoring his status closely.

The only silver lining for Barcelona as they awaits further word about the latest injury concern is their attacking depth. The club features no shortage of talent up front and in the midfield, highlighted by the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Andres Iniesta.

Though the attack won't be at it's best without Neymar, it shouldn't suffer a major drop off in the short term, either. It also means Barca can take a more conservative route to make sure he's back to full strength before returning to the lineup.

If it turns out to be a more significant issue, then there are more question marks. Getting Neymar, Messi and Suarez on the same page before the key part of the campaign was a key goal. An extended absence would make that task much tougher depending on the timeline.

Ultimately, the situation should become more clear in the days ahead. Barcelona just have to hope the injury further evaluation doesn't show anything major.
