Former NFL quarterback Max Hall was arrested Friday on charges of shoplifting and cocaine possession.
AZCentral.com reported the news of Hall's arrest Tuesday, with details as to what transpired:
Gilbert police were called to the Best Buy near Loop 202 and Williams Field Road at about 11:30 a.m. Friday where they found Hall in possession of "several stolen items from Best Buy and a nearby Walmart," according to a Gilbert police spokesman. Police also found a "personal use quantity of cocaine," according to the spokesman.
Brahm Resnik of 12 News in Arizona tweeted Hall's mugshot:
Hall enjoyed a decorated collegiate career at Brigham Young, where he went 32-7 in three years as a starter for the Cougars and threw for 11,365 yards, 94 touchdowns and 40 interceptions, per Sports-Reference.com.
Despite those gaudy numbers from Hall, he wasn't selected in the 2010 NFL draft, but did catch on with the Arizona Cardinals. After two brief appearances as a rookie, Hall made his starting debut against the New Orleans Saints and led the Cardinals to a 30-20 victory.
But that was the apex of Hall's NFL success, as he wound up struggling on the whole in six career games, throwing one touchdown to six interceptions and averaging just 4.74 yards per attempt.
Arizona didn't retain Hall beyond 2011, and he last played professionally for the Canadian Football League's Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2013. Before the current regular season began, though, Hall was part of the Blue Bombers' final cuts after posting a 1-8 record as a starter the previous year (h/t Deseret News).
Most recently, Hall has been the offensive coordinator for Gilbert High School, as Hunter Schwarz of The Washington Post pointed out:
It remains to be seen how this incident affects Hall's public image and his legacy at BYU.
Until more details of this legal incident are available, it is difficult to pass judgment on Hall's circumstances. However, his run-in with the law doesn't bode well for his chances to stay on the Gilbert High School coaching staff.
