Video Depicts North Korea Triumphing at the Group Stages of the World Cup

Sean Swaby

Congratulations, North Korea, you made it out of the World Cup's group stages!

Confused? You should be.

North Korea, of course, didn't even participate in the World Cup.

Thad didn't stop a video from being created showing celebratory images of North Korean footballers and scenes from Brazil.

It even shows Kim Jong-Un waving to happy fans in Brazil (let's just ignore that the shirts in the clip look more of the Chilean variety than North Korean).

Not only did they advance, they ran roughshod: According to the clip, they defeated Japan 7-0, the United States 4-0 and China 2-0. Quite an impressive group-stage effort.

This is hardly a new phenomenon. Less we forget, North Korea defeated Brazil 1-0 in the 2010 World Cup, according to North Korean news (Brazil won 2-1).

So there you have it—when the footballing gods frown upon you, make your own (spoof) footballing history in the news.
