Germany vs. Algeria: Live Player Ratings

Germany are through to the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup following a 2-1, extra time win over Algeria in Porto Alegre.

Andre Schuerrle finally broke the deadlock just moments after the first period of extra time began, and with just over a minute to go before the final whistle Mesut Ozil scored what proved to be the winner.

Seconds later Abdelmoumene Djabou pulled one back for Algeria, but it was too little, too late for the Fennec Foxes.

Following are ratings and analysis for both sets of players.

Manuel Neuer: Came outside his area to make tackles on Slimani and Feghouli.

Shkodran Mustafi: Crosses from the right have been poor.

Jerome Boateng: Positional sense has been lacking so far.

Per Mertesacker: Made an important, early tackle on Slimani.

Benedikt Hoewedes: Algeria have targeted him as a weak point.

Philipp Lahm: Needs to be shifted to full-back for Germany to be more effective.

Manuel Neuer: Made another rush from his line to beat Slimani to the ball.

Shkodran Mustafi: Tested Mbohli with a well-placed header early in the second half.

Jerome Boateng: Did well to cut out Soudani’s cross for Slimani.

Per Mertesacker: Not his most comfortable outing, to say the least.

Benedikt Hoewedes: Offered nothing going forward and was frequently targeted as a weak point in defense.

Philipp Lahm: Did well to smother an Algerian counter-attack shortly after the restart.

Bastian Schweinsteiger: Germany’s most reliable distributor of the ball on Monday.

Toni Kroos: Kept things moving with efficient distribution, but struggled to create clear-cut chances.

Thomas Mueller: Missed the near corner from in close in the final 10 minutes.

Mesut Ozil: Faded noticeably after the restart.

Mario Goetze: Withdrawn at the break after a poor first half.

Andre Schuerrle: Offered a willingness to shot that Goetze simply hadn’t.

Sami Khedira: Replaced the injured Mustafi and allowed Lahm to switch to right-back.

Manuel Neuer: Will have been gutted to lose his clean sheet.

Shkodran Mustafi: Withdrawn through injury.

Jerome Boateng: Made an important tackle on Slimani with two minutes remaining in extra time.

Per Mertesacker: Did well to block of Brahimi’s path on an Algeria counter.

Benedikt Hoewedes: In the end, he offered little but wasn’t a liability.

Philipp Lahm: Looks comfortable no matter the position.

Bastian Schweinsteiger: Picked up a foot injury near the end of the first period of extra time.

Toni Kroos: Made a terrific tackle on Brahimi.

Thomas Mueller: Might have made it 2-0 just minutes after Schuerrle’s opener, but his shot was blocked.

Mesut Ozil: Put the finishing touches on Germany’s win after Schuerrle’s initial shot was blocked.

Mario Goetze: Withdrawn at the break after a poor first half.

Andre Schuerrle: Turned in the winner with an innovative finish.

Sami Khedira: Did well to block a cross from Djabou.

Christoph Kramer: Made just his third appearance for Germany after replacing Schweinsteiger.

Half-time analysis for Algeria

Rais Mbohli: Made a pair of excellent saves on Goetze.

Faouzi Ghoulam: Initiated frequent counter-attacks opposite Mustafi.

Essaid Belkalem: Out of position when Goetze ghosted in, but mostly a decent 45 minutes.

Rafik Halliche: Made an exceptional tackle on Mueller midway through the opening period.

Aissa Mandi: Distribution has been poor, but neither Goetze nor Hoewedes are causing him much trouble.

Mehdi Lacen: Has so far won all his aerial duels.

El Arbi Soudani: Getting involved in the attack when Slimani holds up play.

Saphir Taider: Not a lot of touches in the first half, but he’s not given Lahm or Kroos a lot of freedom, either.

Sofiane Feghouli: Had a free kick in decent space but ballooned it over the crossbar.

Islam Slimani: Had the ball in the back of the net, but play was rightfully stopped for offside.
