Iran vs. Nigeria: Live Player Ratings

Iran and Nigeria played out the first scoreless draw of the 2014 World Cup on Monday in Curitiba.

Although the Super Eagles controlled more than two thirds of the ball they could not find the opening they craved. Team Melli, meanwhile, had the best chance of the match when Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama was called into action following an Ashkan Dejagah corner.

Following are ratings and analysis for both sets of players.

Haghighi: Made an alert stop to deny Musa at the near post.

Montazeri: Has headed away numerous crosses into the box.

Hosseini: Did well to prevent a shot from Onazi.

Sadeqi: Perhaps fortunate to not have been penalised for hand-ball.

Pooladi: Has so far won everything in the air.

Teymourian: Three tackles for the veteran, but he’s giving the ball away far too often.

Nekounam: He’s showing some flash but needs more touches to be effective.

Heydari: Only 14 touches of the ball in the first half.

Hajsafi: Not much involved in Iran’s buildup play.

Dejagah: Iran’s most dangerous attacker so far.

Ghoochanneijhad: He went up to challenge Oboabona for a high ball, and the Nigeria defender went down injured.

Haghighi: Was comfortable in the air but rarely tested.

Montazeri: Totally dominated Moses.

Hosseini: Won all of his aerial battles.

Sadeqi: Didn’t put a foot wrong in the centre of defense.

Pooladi: Handled the Musa threat well.

Teymourian: The only player to go into the book.

Nekounam: An impressive 48 touches and pass-completion rate of 86 percent.

Heydari: Troubled Oshinawa after the restart.

Hajsafi: Saw much more of the ball in the second half.

Dejagah: Contributed a pair of tackles on the defensive side of the ball.

Ghoochanneijhad: Took several shots—many of them ambitious—in the second period.

Jahanbakhsh: Only nine touches after slotting into the right side of midfield.

Shojaei: Came on for a brief cameo.

Enyeama: Did well to keep Iran off the scoresheet when he came up big on a corner kick.

Ambrose: Delivered several decent crosses in the first half.

Oshaniwa: Deputising well at left-back for the injured Elderson.

Oboabona: Forced off through injury midway through the opening period.

Omeruo: Has so far won everything in the air.

Azeez: Needs to better link the midfield and attacking lines.

Mikel: Distribution has been uncharacteristically poor.

Onazi: Pulled a shot just wide of the far post midway through the first half.

Musa: Tracking back to help contain Dejagah.

Emenike: Showing all sorts of athleticism but has taken just a single shot.

Moses: His 13 touches is far too few.

Yobo: Slotted in at right-back as the Porguese defense was reformed.

Enyeama: But for his first-half heroics Nigeria would have lost.

Ambrose: Excellent distribution from the right flank.

Oshaniwa: Won all of his aerial battles.

Oboabona: Forced off through injury midway through the opening period.

Omeruo: Distribution was a bit dodgy.

Azeez: Created a single opening after the restart and was eventually replaced by Odemwingie.

Mikel: The Super Eagles need their best player to be operating at a much higher level.

Onazi: Touched the ball more often than any other player.

Musa: Faded in the second half.

Emenike: One shot in each period just isn’t enough.

Moses: Looked distraught after being withdrawn shortly after the restart.

Yobo: Two caps shy of 100.

Ameobi: Pulled his first shot just wide of the near corner.

Odemwingie: Handled Mikel’s superb pass in the 82nd minute.
