On Sunday, Liverpool and Manchester United played out the next chapter in one of the Premier League's most storied rivalries, the North West Derby. The Reds wound up with an easy 3-0 victory, keeping the team right in the thick of the EPL title chase and heaping further misery on the defending champions in the process.

Two penalties by captain Steven Gerrard (who also missed a third late in the tie) and a late goal by the inevitable Luis Suarez were enough for Liverpool to dispatch of the hosts, who looked absolutely dreadful and were overrun by the Reds.  

Brendan Rodgers put together a fantastic effort tactically, but as shared by this fan, the Liverpool coach gave all credit to his players:

Of course, it takes a great coach to have your players ready for an all-important derby, and Liverpool superfan Robish 13 made sure nobody forgot just how far this team has come under Rodgers:

It was all smiles for Liverpool, but on the other side of the pitch, the crisis at Manchester United continues. David Moyes has been under fire all season, and after the debacle of Athens, the team needed a big win over rivals Liverpool in the worst way.

Obviously, losing 3-0 to one of his biggest rivals won't help Moyes fight his critics one bit.

Rodgers and his team can already start looking at next week, when they have a date with bottom-dwellers Cardiff. With Chelsea's loss to Aston Villa, the Reds are no doubt the big winners of the weekend, closing the gap with Chelsea to a mere four points as Liverpool still have a game in hand.  

For United, a win against Greek champions Olympiacos will be the only thing that can somehow salvage the 2013-14 season. Whether Moyes will still be the man leading the club by that time is something we can only speculate on, but qualifying for the next round of the UEFA Champions League will be a must regardless.
