Earlier this year Martin Petrov, the attacking midfielder who has had a varied and successful career across Europe, signed up to Liga side Espanyol—but now the 34-year-old is back in Britain playing Manchester Saturday League football.

The Bulgarian has turned up at Chorlton Torpedo, and played two games for the team, scoring the winning goal against Spartak Rushes, according to the Metro.

Petrov is no stranger to England, but when he moved here for the first time in 2007, it was to join Sven Goran-Eriksson's Manchester City in a £5 million switch. 

He had three years there where his talent occasionally sparkled, before another three years at Bolton Wanderers. 

Elsewhere there were spells at Atletico Madrid and Wolfsburg amongst others, as well as 90 appearances for his country.

Chorlton's players are unpaid, and his appearance has been causing a stir in the division.

Rushes defender Allan Cooke is quoted as saying:

"I kept looking over because he played centre forward and thinking, 'That’s Martin Petrov'"

"It was surreal. I’ve been telling all my mates and everyone at work and they don’t believe me until I show them the picture."

Whether he could still do a job at a higher level remains to be seen, though he would technically be considered a free agent should a professional club in the region come calling.
