Sam Tighe

The first round of matches in the UEFA Europa League this season provided goals, red cards and excitement.

Check in to see how each and every club performed, with full analysis provided for Swansea, Fiorentina, Frankfurt, Sevilla and more.

There were some high-scoring affairs in Eastern Europe, and Dutch football did well to escape the night without completely embarrassing itself.

Swansea City began their first-ever UEFA Europa League adventure at Mestalla, smashing Valencia 3-0 in a spectacular display.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men early on as Adil Rami hauled Wilfried Bony down as the last man, and soon after the Ivorian swept home after great work from Michu down the left.

The Spaniard then turned goalscorer, latching onto Alejandro Pozuelo's clever ball in the box and beating Vicente Guaita at his near post. Jonathan de Guzman iced the cake with a sublime 25-yard free-kick.

Fiorentina 3-0 Pacos Ferreira

Fiorentina made light work of Pacos Ferreira, beating the Portuguese outfit by a comfortable 3-0 scoreline.

Gonzalo Rodriguez opened the scoring with a near-post flick header from a corner. The home side then doubled their lead midway through the second half as Ryder Matos met Borja Valero's cross and netted via the back post.

Giuseppe Rossi, a threat all evening and creator of the first goal, finally got on the scoresheet in the 76th minute, picking his spot from inside the area and firing home.

Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 Bordeaux

Eintracht Frankfurt started the Bundesliga season in poor fashion but they set things right in Europe. An early goal set them on their way to an easy win.

Vaclav Kadlec netted in the fourth minute at the back post, then Marco Russ doubled the advantage in the 16th minute following Tranquillo Barnetta's corner.

They made sure in the second half, netting their third via a Constant Djakpa free-kick, before Lucas Orban crowned a miserable night in blue with a straight red card.

Estoril 1-2 Sevilla

Sevilla scraped a win from the bottom of the barrel against Portuguese minnows Estoril.

Still settling down after a remarkable fire sale over the summer, their play was far from fluent. However, they still managed to take the lead in the second half. Marko Marin played in Machín, who chipped the onrushing 'keeper with a deft effort.

The Canarinhos hit back quickly, with Bruno Miguel firing home after an initial shot was blocked, but Kevin Gameiro sealed three points with a powerful effort late on.

The hosts were unlucky to come away from the contest with nothing to show.

Real Betis 0-0 Lyon

Real Betis, favoured to go a long way in the competition thanks to a fantastic La Liga season last year, failed to open their account with a win on Thursday.

Dogged, gritty work from Lyon prevented them from doing so. The closest the Beticos got was a one-two in the closing stages that allowed midfield talent Nosa to strike the post.

Pepe Mel will hope his troops can improve, but Remi Garde will be delighted with a point.

Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 Tromso

Tottenham eased to a victory over Tromso. However, despite scoring three excellent goals, they will be concerned by the injuries they picked up.

After Jermain Defoe scored a first-half brace to set the Lilywhites on their way, Danny Rose limped off with a hip/hamstring issue. Later on, Mousa Dembele was escorted off. Lewis Holtby also exited early, sparking fears that despite an impressive showing, Spurs have set themselves back.

Christian Eriksen wrapped up the points late on with a glorious long-distance strike.
