Kansas Ciy Chiefs: Big Red "Arrowhead Stadium"

Joe Jones

There are alot of stadiums that teams call home, but there is no other like Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs and to the greatest fans in football.

The Kansas City Chiefs first stated playing at Municipal Stadium which still holds alot of memories for them. Jack Steadman a long time financial adviser for Lamar Hunt and head chair on the board that governs the Chiefs and the Hunt Midwest Enterprise, had a bigger vision for the Chiefs. Jack Steadmanhad in vision a Harry S. Truman Sports Complex with Arrowhead Stadium being its main stay.

On Aug. 12, 1972 the Chiefs held its first game against the St.Louis Cardinals, that was called the Governor's Cup. Tickets range from 10$ to 6$ in those days was a bargin compared to today's prices. In front of 78,190 fans witness Ed podolak scoring the first ever touchdown at Arrowhead Stadium as the Chiefs went on to win the game 24-14.

On Nov.5,1972 the Chiefs broke attendance records with 82,094 as they pounded on which would be called "Raider Hater I",that was the most attended game in the first 25 years of Arrowhead Stadium.

Since then Arrowhead Stadium has hosted the Pro Bowl in 1974, and the Michael Jackson "Victory Tour". Arrowhead also attracted the likes of Joe Montana and Marcus Allen who has always dreamed of playing in Arrowhead Stadium.

In closing, I myself visitedArrowhead Stadium for a game and when i first stepped foot in the stadium my eyes burned. The sight of all that red in the stands was overwhelming, i've never in my life have seen anything like it before. The crowd noisewas deafening. It was like in outter body experience that you can only feel by being there. It is the true 12th man. As you watch the "Tomahawk Chop" go around the stadium you know you are at the home of the Kansas City Chiefs.
