Geno Auriemma continues to redefine the word "excellence."

Fab freshman Breanna Stewart was nearly unstoppable, scoring 18 points before half (which is a school freshman scoring record for an entire championship game!), on her way to scoring 23 points for the game.

Because of his plain-spoken, upfront manner, most people don't like hearing Auriemma comment about his expectations for his teams.

He enters every season assuming that his team will compete for the national championship.

Pat Summitt holds the record for most Final Four appearances with 18.

According to her Wikipedia page, this is "six more than John Wooden, who holds the men's record."

Geno Auriemma has led his Huskies to 14 Final Fours and counting.

UConn is in the middle of a current streak of six consecutive Final Fours, with winning three of the last five national championships.

Total Wins

These two celebrated coaches have won nearly 2,000 games between the two of them.

Summitt had a super-impressive record over her 38 years on Rocky Top.

Her Lady Vols were a mind-blowing 1098-208. No other college coach, of either men's or women's teams, has won this many games.

That was an average of 28.9 victories per season.

Auriemma, in his 28 seasons, has posted an eye-popping 838-133 mark.

His Huskies have averaged 29.9 wins per season.

It's one thing to win 30 games for a couple seasons. Auriemma has done it for nearly three decades.

Winning Percentage

Because of the difference in the number of years that Summit and Auriemma have coached, looking at their winning percentages would help even the playing field further.

Over her 38 years at Tennessee, Summitt's teams won 84.1 percent of their games.

To put that in perspective, Mike Krzyzewski, Duke's men's basketball coach, has "only" won 79.4 percent of his games.

Auriemma's UConn teams have come out on top 86.3 percent of the time. Over the last five years, the Huskies have won a ridiculous 94.3 percent of their games (182-11).

By winning his eighth NCAA championship, Geno Auriemma has removed the biggest obstacle in how people around women's collegiate hoops regard his coaching career in comparison with Pat Summitt.

He is not only on even ground with the remarkable former coach of the Lady Vols, he is on his way to surpassing her accomplishments and becoming the greatest women's coach of all time.
