Katherine Webb thinks we were all too hard on Brent Musburger, you guys. And she sure doesn't think ESPN needed to apologize for the incident during Monday night's BCS National Championship.

If you've been living under a rock for the past two days, ESPN cameras panned over to Webb (AJ McCarron's girlfriend) and McCarron's mother during the first quarter, after which Musburger and Kirk Herbstreit gushed over the pair of lovely ladies.

As to be expected, Twitter was quickly flooded with jokes at the expense of the two announcers, and the next day ESPN apologized for Musburger's behavior.

But to her credit, Webb didn't think it was a big deal; rather, it was blown out of proportion. As she told Matt Lauer on The Today Show (via NBC.com's Scott Stump), she thinks Musburger got a raw deal:

I think the media has been really unfair to him. I think if he would have said something along the lines of, "We were hot" or "We were sexy" or made any derogatory statements like that, I think that would have been a little bit different. But the fact that he said we were beautiful and gorgeous, I don't see why any woman wouldn't be flattered by that.

As per ESPN's apology, Webb said simply, "I don't think it was needed, honestly. Of course, I appreciate it, but I don't think I needed an apology."

Webb has been a good sport about all of this, and I'm sure she's enjoying her new-found Twitter fame. But I can't help but hold on to the feeling that Musburger's comments, while ultimately harmless, were a little inappropriate.

I was far from the only one who felt that way. It would have been one thing if Musburger had something like,"There is the lovely Katherine Webb, supporting her boyfriend" during the broadcast and left it at that. It's a little bit different accompanied by audible "oohs" and "wows!"

I suppose it's open for interpretation. And Webb chose to not be bothered by Musburger's comments. Hey, if you reportedly gained 175,000 Twitter followers in the past day or so, you might not care either .
