Roger Federer knocked off Andy Murray 7-6, 6-2 on Sunday to advance to the finals of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, where he will face Novak Djokovic.

Murray and Federer have had some classic matches this year, but Sunday's was not one of them. 

Federer seized control of the match as soon as he won the first set. Unlike many tournaments the two have played this season, the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals uses a best-of-three-sets format. Winning the first set of a three-set format puts immense pressure on the player who dropped the opener.

Murray lost the opener in heartbreaking fashion and never recovered. Once he dropped that set, the air went out of the sail for Murray. He went downhill quickly, and early in the second set, you could just tell that he was in deep trouble.

Federer did what he does best, and that's playing consistent tennis while hitting every shot imaginable with precision and solid contact. He will need to be just as sharp when he takes on Djokovic in the final. 

As for Murray, his best season comes to an end on a down note. However, he did win his first career major this year as well as an Olympic gold medal while playing the best tennis of his entire career. It's going to be very interesting to watch tennis next year if Rafael Nadal comes back strong.

We could be looking at four fantastic players all capable of beating one another. We can only hope every player enters 2013 healthy, because that would be amazing to watch.
