Cristiano Ronaldo: Real Madrid Star Must Shine While Injuries Hurt Club's Depth

Nicholas Goss

Cristiano Ronaldo must continue to score goals at an impressive pace for Real Madrid while the club deals with injuries that are hurting the squad's depth.

Per Dermot Corrigan of ESPN Soccernet:

Injury problems continue to mount for Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho, whose two senior centre-forwards, Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema, are now serious doubts for the trip to Levante on Sunday.

Later in the article:

"We were losing, and then we lost Higuain," Mourinho said. "We do not have another centre-forward on the bench and we needed to come back. We did not have many attacking options, but we managed it. I do not believe that either of the two (Higuain or Benzema) will be available for Sunday."

While his teammates try to regain their fitness, Ronaldo will have to shine even brighter than he already has this season for Madrid to maintain their pursuit of another La Liga title.

The Portuguese forward has scored 11 goals in 10 games this season for Los Blancos and has also excelled in the Champions League.

Madrid has a tough schedule over the next few weeks, and if the squad doesn't have the ideal amount of depth, there will be an increased amount of pressure on Ronaldo to play at an even higher level.

Los Blanco's next match is a league battle with Levante, who have played well this season and are sixth in the table at the moment. After that, Madrid plays a struggling Athletic Bilbao, but after that, the schedule gets much tougher.

The next two matches are against Manchester City in the Champions League and rivals Atletico Bilbao in an important La Liga showdown.

These will be two incredibly difficult tests for Madrid.

This is a critical time in the Madrid season, and the club needs Ronaldo to put the team on his back to earn some favorable results over the next few weeks.

The good news for Madrid fans is that Ronaldo has all the talent needed to carry the club through this difficult stretch of the schedule.
