The Seattle Seahawks won in Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers, but rookie quarterback Russell Wilson's two interceptions nearly cost his team the game. 

CBSSports.com's Jason LaCanfora wrote this before the team's game in Week 5:

The Seahawks are not averse to benching Wilson in favor of free agent Matt Flynn soon, if they believe he would give them the best chance to win, and coach Pete Carroll is monitoring that situation closely...if Wilson can not be more effective on third-down or establish more of a pocket presence, the move to Flynn could be imminent.

Wilson's past two games have been full of glaring mistakes (five interceptions), and the honest truth is that out of the five games he's played, he's only had one solid outing. 

Head coach Pete Carroll needs to make a switch to Matt Flynn before his team is no longer in the running for the NFC West crown. 

For the season, Wilson has completed 79-of-125 passes (63.2 percent) for 815 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions. He has consistently shown poor footwork, even sometimes on the most basic of throws, and though his talent is undeniable, his judgement leaves much to be desired. 

The Seahawks possess one of the NFL's top defensive units—a unit that will keep this team within striking distance of most teams just about every weekend. 

The team was fortunate that Wilson's two interceptions against the Carolina Panthers didn't cost them the game. His turnovers certainly make a difference against the better teams—much like what we saw in Week 4 against the St. Louis Rams. 

Though the sample size is small, Flynn's time as a backup for the Green Bay Packers and his play this preseason illustrates the fact that he's better suited than Wilson at taking care of the football and helping the team stay ahead of the game in the turnover department. 

He learned behind one of the game's greatest players in Aaron Rodgers, and in his limited time, Flynn has thrown nine touchdowns compared to five interceptions—twice as good as Wilson in this department. 

If the Seahawks have any chance of hanging with the San Francisco 49ers—clearly one of the NFL's top teams—in the NFC West, Flynn is the quarterback to keep them in the race.

Right now, the Seahawks are only one game out of first place. If Wilson's struggles continue, that margin will increase and the Seahawks may fall out of wild-card contention. 

Now is the time to make the change this team needs in order to stay competitive. Flynn must start in Week 6 when the New England Patriots come to town.
