Just hours after selling Luka Modric to Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur fans have been left scratching their heads after the club announced a huge partnership deal with the Spanish giants going forward.

The ink has barely dried on Luka Modric's new contract with Real Madrid after leaving Spurs for £33-million and the club's fans are already bracing themselves for future sales.

An announcement on the club website read:

The Club can announce that it has signed a partnership agreement with Real Madrid FC and reached agreement for the transfer of Luka Modric, subject to medical, to the Spanish club.

The partnership agreement will see the two Clubs working together in respect of players, coaching, best practices and commercial relationships.

The key word in this statement for fans of the White Hart Lane club will obviously be "players," as their great fear will be the continued loss of star players like Modric to Jose Mourinho's La Liga champions.

Modric was one of the jewels in the crown for Harry Redknapp and his surprise successor Andre Villas-Boas, so his loss will be deeply felt by the team. However, the most worrying aspect of this for fans of the club, who obviously number smaller than Madrid, is that this deal may turn out to be one-way and serve Real better.

Spurs fans will worry that they will lose stars like Gareth Bale and Kyle Walker, and future stars like Steven Caulker and Sandro, with Madrid using this partnership as a way to offload their excess baggage upon the White Hart Lane based club.

A prime example of this would be Madrid offering 34-year-old Ricardo Carvalho to Spurs as part of the Modric deal, only for the offer to be rejected.

Regarding players and future sales, the deal would seem to suit Madrid with Florentino Perez saying he was understandably very happy to strike the deal with Daniel Levy.

The Real Madrid FC President said, "The strong relationship and affinity between our two clubs has resulted in the cementing of a longer-term partnership and the successful transfer of Luka Modric. We are delighted to welcome Luka and look forward to working closely with Tottenham in the coming years."

Levy is one of the best negotiators in the game today so it is very hard indeed to see the Spurs chairman selling his club short in a one-sided deal.

The Spurs supremo has overseen the £31 million transfer of Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United and the £20 million transfer of Robbie Keane to Liverpool amongst others, so he has proven very skilled at getting the very best deal for his club in the past.

Speaking about the deal, Daniel Levy commented, "Luka has been a terrific player for us and, whilst we preferred not to part with him, we are pleased that it is to Real Madrid, a club with which we now look forward to sharing a long and productive partnership."

On paper there is more to worry about for the White Hart Lane based club than the Santiago Bernabeu based club, but one thing is for sure: If Spurs can get the very best out of this deal through players and coaching and an obvious link to a potential future manager, then Daniel Levy will have done his job very, very well.
