Fresh off their stunning upset win over Brazil in the Olympic Soccer tournament, Mexico's goalscorer Oribe Peralta has openly declared that he dreams of playing for Manchester United.

Peralta netted both times in his nation's 2-1 victory over the Selecao, defying the favourites for the gold medal.

When asked if he had any ambition to play in England, he was quick to confirm a desire (via Daily Mail).

"'Yes, of course I'd love to come and play here. It would be a challenge and it would be really great for me."

When pressed further, he confirmed suspicions that United's own Mexican hero, Javier Hernandez, was the man whose achievements were those to which he aspires.

"He's an inspiration to us, scoring goals," he told reporters.

"We have to train to be like him. He scores many important goals for Manchester United. This makes us happy and it's something we aspire to."

Before fans get carried away though, it is worth mentioning that Peralta was one of three over-age players in the Mexican squad, and at 28 years old is unlikely to make the switch to Manchester from current club Santos Laguna at this relatively late stage in his career.

Nevertheless, if his showing at Wembley suggested anything, it's that the Mexican may be capable of playing in the Premier League, if just for a lower table club.

It is reassuring for United fans that so many Mexican players still see Hernandez as their benchmark, the forward having made the move from Guadalajara in 2009.

Although he has since faded after a promising first season, Hernandez will certainly be called upon in United's upcoming Premier League campaign where he will have further chances to impress more of his Mexican peers.
