Dez Bryant is facing a misdemeanor domestic violence charge following his arrest in DeSoto, Texas, Saturday evening.
UPDATE: Tuesday, July 17, 1:50 p.m. ET by Donald Wood
The wild case of Dez Bryant’s latest arrest continues to get even more unbelievable.
The Dallas Star-Telegram is reporting on what Bryant’s mother said on the recorded 911 call about her son’s assault on her and what she thought her son was trying to do:
In an emotional 911 call, the mother of Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant can be heard telling friends that her son “tried to kill me” and that she’s going to “put an end to it today.” Angela D. Bryant told police that her son hit her across the face with a ball cap, pulled her hair, tore her shirt and bra, and repeatedly struck her hands and wrists when she tried to push him away, according to records released Tuesday by the DeSoto Police Department.
On the call to police, Angela Bryant was also heard saying the following (h/t NFL.com):
I can't keep letting him do this. I can't keep letting him do me like this. I'm tired. I'm going to put an end to it today. I'm going to put an end to it today. I'm tired.
With further investigating, if this is just the latest in a long history of abusing his mother, both the authorities and Dallas Cowboys must act. Bryant should be cut from the team and suspended from the league, not to mention the possible prison time for the continued abuse.
This is as despicable of a situation as anyone could imagine.
Bryant’s run-ins with the law are nothing new, but beating on his own mother is even low for the most-hardened criminals. As good as Dez is, there is no excuse for these actions.

After an earlier report about Bryant shoving his mother, TMZ is expanding upon that and reporting that the Cowboys receiver actually ripped his mother's shirt and bra in the fracas:
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant allegedly hit his mother in the face with his baseball cap ... and grabbed her by the shirt so hard that he ripped her bra ... this according to arrest documents obtained by TMZ.
Bryant is not in a good state, obviously. Something has to be done sooner rather than later to let him know that is actions are not going to be tolerated by anyone. We shall see what happens with the Cowboys and NFL after the legal process has taken its course.

UPDATE: Tuesday, July 17 at 7:40 a.m. EST by Adam Wells
Details about Bryant's arrest are slowly starting to trickle out. The most recent update on the situation comes from Tim McMahon of ESPN Dallas, who reports that Bryant turned himself over to police after an incident on Saturday night.
A source said late Monday night that Bryant, in an argument with his half brother, wound up pushing his mother, Angela. According to the source, police responded to a call on Saturday night, but no arrests were made at that point. Further examination of the reports resulted in Monday's arrest, the source said.
Looking at things strictly from a football perspective, the Cowboys and Roger Goodell are going to have a decision to make with Bryant. He keeps putting himself in bad situations that reflect poorly on him, the team and the NFL.

News 8's Rebecca Lopez broke the news:
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant was arrested by DeSoto police on Monday, News 8 has learned.
The nature of the charge Bryant is facing was not immediately clear.
When contacted by News 8, Bryant would only say there had been an incident, but did not go into detail about it.
This is certainly disappointing to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and the entire Dallas organization. Bryant is a major part of their current offense, and he's supposed to be a building block for the future of their franchise.
We don't know the details surrounding this situation, but it's not necessarily surprising given Bryant's troubled reputation. The Dallas Morning News touched upon some of Bryant's prior run-ins with the law:
This is the second time in six months that Bryant has had a run in with the law. Back in January, he was involved in an altercation outside a Miami nightclub and was detained by police, but not arrested. Bryant has been named in multiple lawsuits regarding unpaid debts. He was also kicked out of NorthPark Center and temporarily banned last summer for inappropriate attire.
Last season, Bryant played in 15 games. He hauled in 63 catches for 928 yards and nine touchdowns. He's a focal point of Dallas' attack, and any suspension in this case will be a mighty blow to their receiving corps.
It's unclear what the NFL League Office will do in this situation, but it doesn't bode well for Bryant. His history with law enforcement doesn't lend itself to leniency. Sooner or later, a lesson has to be learned.
Details surrounding this incident will come to light in the next few days, but all criminal charges are worth taking seriously. Glossing over incidents like this would be uncharacteristic of Roger Goodell, and the Dallas organization may need to adjust accordingly.
When News 8 asked him about the pending charge, Bryant kept it short and sweet. "I'm good, I'm good," he said.
We will have to reserve our judgment until this situation hashes itself out, but being "good" doesn't seem likely for Bryant in this scenario.
CBS Dallas Fort-Worth updated the initial reports with information saying the receiver posted bond on the charge for less than $2,000 and was released. The charge is a Class A misdemeanor.
This is a situation worth keeping an eye on. Stay tuned as the story's cracks are filled in over the coming days.
