Rivals 100: Which New 5-Star Prospects Are Interested in Playing in the SEC?

Barrett Sallee

The college football season only lasts three months, but recruiting season never stops.

Earning a 5-star rating from any recruiting service is an honor for high school football players, and Rivals.com has emerged as one of the premier recruiting services in the country.

Rivals released its updated Top 100 on Tuesday. While the names at the top—Robert Nkemdiche and Reuben Foster—shouldn't shock you, six prep players earned their fifth star from Rivals on Tuesday.

Which of these players could be coming to an SEC stadium near you? Here is a look at the prospects:

No. 15: Dee Liner, Defensive End, Muscle Shoals, Ala.

Liner has been an Auburn commitment for nearly a year. The 6'2", 274-pounder was back in Auburn over Memorial Day weekend for the fourth annual Big Cat Weekend. He has taken a few visits around to other schools, but has remained solid to Auburn as he has vaulted up recruiting boards.

No. 14: Carl Lawson, Defensive End, Milton, Ga.

Like Liner, Lawson is also committed to playing football for the Auburn Tigers in 2013. The 6'2", 253-pounder is quick off of the line of scrimmage, and has quickly moved up prospect rankings during his high school career.

According to Justin Hokanson of AuburnSports.com, Lawson and Liner met each other for the first time at Big Cat Weekend. If their commitments hold true, they will be meeting at the opposing quarterback often during their next few years at Auburn.

No. 12: Derrick Green, Running Back, Richmond, Va.

Green is a 6'0", 215-pound speedster from Hermitage High School in Richmond, Va. With a 4.37 40-yard dash, he has the speed to run past defenders, but the size to run over them.

According to Austin Price of VolQuest.com, Green visited Tennessee over the weekend, and came away impressed enough to say that the Vols will be included in his top five when it comes time to take official visits.

No. 11: Matthew Thomas, Linebacker, Miami, Fla.

At 6'3", 201 pounds, Thomas is a freak whose skills can be used in a variety of different ways at the collegiate level. He is a perfect fit for the 3-4 scheme, and that could be a big reason why Georgia and Alabama appear in his recently announced top five, according to Howie Lindsey of CardinalSports.com.

Could Thomas be the next Jarvis Jones or Courtney Upshaw? We will have to wait until National Signing Day.

No. 10: Montravius Adams, Defensive Tackle, Vienna, Ga.

Adams is an imposing figure at 6'3", 290 pounds. He visited Auburn for the third time over the weekend for Big Cat Weekend, and came away impressed according to Charles Goldberg of AL.com. He has offers from virtually every school in the SEC. Expect Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama to get in the mix before all is said and done.

No. 4: Jaylon Smith, Linebacker, Fort Wayne, Ind.

Smith has offers from several SEC schools, including Alabama, Florida, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Texas A&M. He has narrowed his top three to Notre Dame, Ohio State and USC, so don't expect to see Smith in the SEC unless something changes.
