Duke vs. UNC Predictions: Tar Heels Will Prove ACC Dominance with Rivalry Rout

Tim Daniels

Every time Duke and North Carolina face off, it's must-see television. It's one the best rivalries in all of college sports and seems to get more intense with each passing year. Since both teams are fighting for the top spot in the ACC, tonight's game is sure to live up to the hype.

Here are three reasons the Tar Heels will take care of business against the Blue Devils.

Post Play

The combination of Tyler Zeller and John Henson is a nightmare matchup for nearly every team in America, including Duke. The pair is averaging a combined 29 points and 20 rebounds while shooting well above 50 percent from the field.

Add swing man Harrison Barnes into the mix, and Duke has virtually no chance of controlling the paint in tonight's game. That will lead to a big rebounding edge for the Tar Heels, who are the best team in the nation at grabbing boards.

Look for North Carolina spend much of the first half establishing their advantage in the paint, which will set the tone for the entire game.

Duke's Defense

Duke has been unable to get key stops when it needs them, which is the main reason it has been upset twice over the past few weeks. That doesn't bode well against a Tar Heels squad that leads the country in scoring at more than 84 PPG.

What should really bother the Cameron Crazies is the lack on intensity on that end of the floor. There is enough talent on the roster to be a good defensive team, but it just hasn't come together yet. And with the tournament inching closer, the Blue Devils are running out of time to fix it.

Even though Mike Krzyzewski has worked some miracles in the past, he has his work cut out for him to overhaul his team's defense.

Home-Court Advantage

North Carolina is undefeated at home this season. It includes a win over Wisconsin earlier in the season when the Badgers were ranked inside the top 10. That gives the Tar Heels a monster advantage heading into tonight's clash.

Students at both schools wait for these games all year long, so by the time tip-off arrives, they are pumped. That's where college basketball has an advantage over the NBA; the crowd support is simply amazing, especially for rivalry games.

The two teams will meet again to close out the regular season in early March, but North Carolina will pick up a home win to hold bragging rights for at least three weeks.
