Liverpool Transfer Rumours: Reds Linked with Germany Winger Marko Marin

Jake Ware

One of Liverpool's biggest holes this season has been the gaping one on the team's left wing. Stewart Downing, who was brought in for £18 million this summer, has been cringe-worthy pretty much every time he has touched the ball, and the need that was there at the start of the season has remained for the Merseyside club.

Liverpool were expected to invest heavily in the position in January, but through 28 days, the market has been quiet. However, in news many Reds fans will rejoice in, several sources, among them The Sunday People, are reporting that Liverpool might be set to take a run at Werder Bremen's dynamic winger Marko Marin.

Liverpool were heavily linked with Marin in the summer, but the move never materialized as Liverpool instead settled for overpaying for Downing. In 11 games of the 2011/12 season, Marko Marin has yet to score, but has amassed three assists as his quest to become the Bundesliga's top winger continues.

A 22-year-old wing wizard of Yugoslavian descent, Marin has never been much of a goalscorer, but has become renowned in recent seasons for his skill and passing ability on the flank. An unselfish player who loves to see his teammates in the spotlight, Marin has been linked with top four Premiership clubs for quite a while now, but somehow is still on the books at Bremen.

He would likely cost Liverpool between £15 and £20 million. Here's hoping Kenny Dalglish makes a move.
