College Football Recruiting: Initial Top 25 Classes for 2026

David Kenyon

Recruiting never ends.

The recent cycle reached its unofficial end on Wednesday, yet that simply means the 2026 class is formally taking the spotlight.

With about 10 months until the December signing period, the highest-ranked hauls in the nation are hardly a surprise. Oregon leads the pack, followed by Texas A&M, USC, Penn State and Tennessee.

This early in the cycle, though, there are some fun notes.

According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Kansas finds itself with a top-10 class. Syracuse and Rutgers are close behind, while Alabama, Florida, Miami, Michigan and Ole Miss are in the late 20s or lower.

In short: There will be changes. The list is effectively meant as a timestamp and early preview on the emerging 2026 class.

25-21. UCLA, Maryland, Boston College, Baylor and Oklahoma

25. UCLA Bruins

Class size: 4 commits (one 4-star)

At this rate, who's to say UCLA won't hoard the receivers in 2026? All four of the Bruins' commits—blue-chipper Jonah Smith, twin brothers Jaron and Kennan Pula and Kenneth Moore III—are wideouts.

24. Maryland Terrapins

Class size: 4 commits (one 5-star)

The headliner of the haul is edge-rusher Zion Elee, the No. 4 overall player in the class so far. Elee's commitment is especially important for Maryland to keep, because he's an elite in-state talent.

23. Boston College Eagles

Class size: 9 commits

While a strong majority of Boston College's initial commits in the 2026 cycle are from the Northeast, the program went to California for a quarterback. Corin Berry, a 3-star prospect, gave his verbal pledge to Bill O'Brien and the Eagles last summer.

22. Baylor Bears

Class size: 5 commits (three 4-stars)

Baylor recently added a pair of 2026 prospects in 4-star athlete London Smith and 4-star quarterback Jamarion Vincent. Incidentally, they are both hometown players in Waco.

21. Oklahoma Sooners

Class size: 4 commits (two 4-stars)

In a critical year for OU coach Brent Venables, the recruiting class has a good foundation. Oklahoma is set to build around Jaden O'Neal, a 4-star quarterback from California who can appeal to more prospects like 4-star receiver Daniel Odom—OU's latest commitment.

20-16. Clemson, Ohio State, Iowa, Arizona State and Rutgers

20. Clemson Tigers

Class size: 6 commits (two 4-stars)

One basic rule in recruiting is signing a QB in each class. Well, the Tigers already have a pair of signal-callers. Four-star Tait Reynolds is currently a top-300 player, while Brock Bradley is a 3-star prospect.

19. Ohio State Buckeyes

Class size: 4 commits (one 5-star, two 4-stars)

Death, taxes and the Buckeyes landing a 5-star receiver. It's freaking inevitable. Most impressively, Ohio State has held a verbal pledge from Chris Henry Jr.—the No. 5 overall talent so far—since July 2023.

18. Iowa Hawkeyes

Class size: 6 commits (three 4-stars)

As you'd expect from Iowa, the initial focus is along the trenches. Four of the Hawkeyes' six pledges are offensive or defensive linemen, led by 4-star blocker Carson Nielsen and 4-star rusher Hudson Parliament.

17. Arizona State Sun Devils

Class size: 6 commits (two 4-stars)

Wednesday technically was a landmark for the 2025 class, but Arizona State also managed to celebrate a 2026 recruiting win. Tight end Israel Biggs committed to the Sun Devils, becoming the second 4-star in the group alongside quarterback Jake Fette.

16. Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Class size: 5 commits (two 4-stars)

Rutgers went on a sizzling recruiting run in January, adding four prospects during the month. The highest-rated player was Jaylen McGill, a 4-star running back out of South Carolina.

15-11. South Carolina, Syracuse, Illinois, LSU and Georgia

15. South Carolina Gamecocks

Class size: 5 commits (three 4-stars)

For the program to develop into an annual threat, winning major in-state battles is essential. South Carolina did well with its 2025 class and has started similarly for 2026, landing both cornerback J'Zavien Currence and tight end Jamel Howse. They are first and second in the state.

14. Syracuse Orange

Class size: 9 commits (two 4-stars)

After notching a 10-win record in Fran Brown's debut season, Syracuse needs to capitalize on the trail. Edge-rusher Jarius Rodgers and offensive tackle Javeion Cooper are early 4-stars for the Orange.

13. Illinois Fighting Illini

Class size: 8 commits (two 4-stars)

Illinois is not-so-quietly infringing on Ohio State's territory early in 2026. Illinois has picked up commitments from cornerback Victor Singleton and athlete Cam Thomas, a pair of blue-chip prospects from the Buckeye State. Singleton is ranked 63rd in the nation, too.

12. LSU Tigers

Class size: 5 commits (four 4-stars)

To the surprise of nobody, LSU is building a fence around its local area. All five commits are from Louisiana, including four in the New Orleans area. Four-star teammates, safety Aiden Hall and defensive lineman Richard Anderson, are a couple of top-60 pledges.

11. Georgia Bulldogs

Class size: 5 commits (four 4-stars)

Georgia will contend for a ton of elite talent, and 4-star receiver Vance Spafford is a good example. Also, though, the Dawgs hold a commitment from D-lineman Seven Cloud, the highest-ranked JUCO player.

10-6. Kansas, Florida State, Arkansas, Auburn and Notre Dame

10. Kansas Jayhawks

Class size: 12 commits (two 4-stars)

Volume, realistically, is why Kansas has a top-10 position; no program has more than the Jayhawks' 12. Nevertheless, there's some quality with 4-star offensive tackle Kaden Snyder and 4-star athlete JJ Dunnigan.

9. Florida State Seminoles

Class size: 6 commits (four 4-stars)

Florida State has done a respectable job early in the cycle, bringing in a quartet of blue-chip players with receiver Efrem White atop the list. But after a 2-10 year pushed Mike Norvell on the hot seat, the 'Noles will be fighting a barrage of negative recruiting all summer.

8. Arkansas Razorbacks

Class size: 9 commits (two 4-stars)

Being here now is one thing, ending here is another. That's the struggle for Arkansas, which has hovered in the top-30 range during Sam Pittman's tenure. Top-200 edge-rusher Colton Yarbough leads the haul.

7. Auburn Tigers

Class size: 6 commits (five 4-stars)

Auburn, meanwhile, is aiming to stack top-10 classes for a third consecutive cycle. Among the blue-chip commits, three of them—edge-rusher Hezekiah Harris, wide receiver Devin Carter and linebacker Shadarius Toodle—are each top-100 prospects.

6. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Class size: 7 commits (five 4-stars)

In case you wanted to feel old today, Thomas Davis Jr. is committed to Notre Dame. Fittingly, he's a 4-star linebacker, too. His father, Thomas Davis Sr., was an All-Pro linebacker who spent most of his 16 NFL seasons with the Carolina Panthers.

5-1. Tennessee, Penn State, USC, Texas A&M and Oregon

5. Tennessee Volunteers

Class size: 7 commits (one 5-star, four 4-stars)

Tennessee landed 5-star QB Faizon Brandon last summer and is steadily surrounding him with potential weapons. Since then, the Vols have added 4-star receiver Tyreek King and 4-star tight end Carson Sneed.

4. Penn State Nittany Lions

Class size: 9 commits (five 4-stars)

Four of the Nittany Lions' pledges are the best prospects in their state. Four-star offensive tackle Kevin Brown (Pennsylvania) is the headliner, followed by 4-star edge-rusher Daniel Jennings (West Virginia) and 3-star wideouts Jahsiear Rogers (Delaware) and Jerquaden Guilford (Indiana).

3. USC Trojans

Class size: 8 commits (one 5-star, four 4-stars)

USC is loading up defensively. Five-star athlete Xavier Griffin is a linebacker, and the Trojans also have 4-star pledges in edge-rusher Braeden Jones and cornerbacks RJ Sermons and Brandon Lockhart.

2. Texas A&M Aggies

Class size: 10 commits (eight 4-stars)

It'll change, of course, but Texas A&M has hardly done any damage in Texas so far. In fact, the Aggies' two Lone Star commits are their lowest-rated prospects in the class. Texas A&M's top-50 pledges—receiver Aaron Gregory and edge Jordan Carter—are from Georgia.

1. Oregon Ducks

Class size: 10 commits (two 5-stars, six 4-stars)

Not only is Oregon the only program with multiple 5-stars, but it also boasts five top-100 commits. Five-star athlete Kendre Harrison (a tight end) and offensive tackle Kodi Greene hold the prestigious label with running back Tradarian Bell, defensive lineman Tony Cumberland and quarterback Jonas Williams all being highly respected 4-stars.
