WWE Rumors on Drew McIntyre Backstage, Alexa Bliss' Contract and 2025 Royal Rumble

Bleacher Report catches you up on the latest news from the WWE Universe.

Drew McIntyre Reportedly Upset After Rumble Elimination

Even though the Royal Rumble show overall was a huge success, there was something that went wrong in the men's match that didn't sit well with Drew McIntyre.

Per Mike Johnson of PW Insider (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), McIntyre was "screaming and cursing" when he made it backstage after being eliminated because he frustrated that "someone had to get their moves in" at the expense of other planned storyline angles in the match.

The report also notes that McIntyre "stormed out of the building" before the Rumble match ended.

Per Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, this particular situation with McIntyre isn't an angle but didn't rule out the possibility of WWE turning it into an angle going forward.

Given the lack of information about who might have screwed up, it's hard to speculate about any potential repercussions for the person.

It's unclear at this point who the person was. Logan Paul and LA Knight were the only other wrestlers engaged in action when McIntyre was thrown over the top rope by Damian Priest. Priest inadvertently bumped into Knight as he was running up behind McIntyre to toss him out.

This isn't first time McIntyre has taken exception to something that happened on a major show. He reportedly stormed out of the arena after the WarGames match at Survivor Series 2023 on the show when CM Punk returned to WWE, though there was speculation that was part of an angle.

Alexa Bliss Contract Update

After rumors came out last week that Alexa Bliss and WWE were struggling to come to terms on a new contract, she made her long-awaited return as a surprise entrant in the women's Royal Rumble match on Saturday night.

Per Meltzer (h/t Carrier), WWE has confirmed Bliss signed a new deal but his "belief" is the company exaggerated any issues with the negotiations to swerve the audience.

There could be some validity to that theory since Michael Cole's first comment after Bliss' music hit was to say, "The internet said she wasn't coming back."

Johnson previously reported the creative team was told not to factor Bliss into any forthcoming plans due to a "contractual issue."

In Friday's edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Colin Tessier of WrestleZone.com), Meltzer wrote Bliss and WWE were far apart on a new contract.

One reason for WWE to leak that Bliss was having a standoff with the company was to add another surprise entrant in the women's Rumble match. There weren't many after Trish Stratus and Nikki Bella, though the latter was probably expected given the rumors about her negotiating a return.

Bliss had been out of action since the 2023 Royal Rumble when she lost to Bianca Belair in a Raw women's title match. She gave birth to her first child with husband Ryan Cabrera in November 2023.

More Reported Royal Rumble Frustration

The frustration with how things played out in the men's Rumble weren't limited to just McIntyre.

Per Meltzer (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News), there were multiple people who were "pissed" off at an unnamed superstar for trying to get himself over instead of the match:

"There's a guy that a lot of people were pissed at in that match, with the idea that he was trying to get himself over and not the match over, and he was doing things. I don't wanna mention his name, it'll probably come out tomorrow, because it's only one person telling me the name, but it's multiple people telling me that the Drew thing… he wasn't happy. It's not an angle. If they end up doing an angle with the person later–which there's no hints of anything. But I heard that Drew was not the only one unhappy about the situation."

The first tell that someone made other wrestlers upset is seeing if they have an extended absence from television. All of the featured players are going to get a lot of visibility for the next two months leading up to WrestleMania, but there might be a notable star who isn't around.

Another way to tell, barring any leaks to the media, is if a notable star ends up getting squashed in a match with someone like McIntyre. This could also just be something that blows over because it was a mistake in the moment.

Once the men's Rumble match settled down and the ring cleared out, it turned into a terrific main event. The bout ended with Jey Uso securing his spot at WrestleMania by eliminating John Cena to win.
