After starting the day with a six-shot deficit, Rory McIlroy is in contention at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
McIlroy had a fantastic Round 3, carding a seven-under score of 65 for the day to propel him to 15-under for the tournament. He set the tone with back-to-back birdies to start the round and scored two more birdies on the front nine. He collected birdies on the 15th, 16th and 18th hole to finish the day with a share of second place. McIlroy somehow avoided picking up a bogey in less-than-desirable conditions on Saturday.
Sepp Straka, who was two-under-par on Saturday and is 16-under for the tournament, sits atop the leaderboards. Shane Lowry scored a seven-under-par on Saturday and is tied with McIlroy in second place.
Tom Kim, Justin Rose and Cam Davis are tied for fourth place at 14-under, still well within striking distance of the lead.
After an outstanding day from McIlroy on Saturday, fans had high praise for the veteran on social media.
McIlroy has struggled in his last few appearances at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, posting an average score of two-under and an average finish of 66th in his last two showings.
He's been much better this time around, and he'll look to carry his momentum into Round 4 on Sunday to pick up a win.
