Daniel Jeremiah 2025 NFL Mock Draft: Abdul Carter to Titans, Ashton Jeanty to Cowboys

Adam Wells

With no clear and obvious No. 1 quarterback in the 2025 NFL draft, the race to be the top pick by the Tennessee Titans appears to be wide open.

In the first mock of draft season by NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah, the Titans are projected to select Penn State defender Abdul Carter with the idea they could bring in competition at quarterback via free agency or later in the draft.

Another notable pick Jeremiah is projecting later in the first round is one that has been fairly common among draft analysts, with Boise State star Ashton Jeanty going to the Dallas Cowboys at No. 12 overall.

Even though conventional wisdom suggests the Titans would target a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick, they are making sure to keep all of their options open right now.

Titans president of football operations Chad Brinker told reporters on Wednesday they "won't pass on a generational talent with the first pick in the NFL draft" just to force a quarterback on their roster.

There is a lot for the Titans to sort out in the next three months before the draft, especially since they just introduced Mike Borgonzi as their new general manager on Wednesday.

It's unclear at this point if Carter falls into the category of a "generational talent." He's coming off a dominant 2024 season with the Nittany Lions in which he led all FBS defenders in tackles for loss (23.5) and recorded 12 sacks in 16 games.

As an edge defender from Penn State who wears No. 11, there have been some comparisons between Carter and Micah Parsons as prospects. He couldn't have gone out on a higher note with two tackles for loss and one sack in the Nittany Lions' 27-24 loss to Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff semifinal.

Travis Hunter, the 2024 Heisman winner, could also potentially be deemed a generational talent because of his two-way ability. He's the top-ranked player in this year's draft class by B/R's NFL scouting department.

If Hunter ends up being selected with the top pick, it would mark just the first time in draft history a player whose primary position is cornerback went No. 1 overall. The only other defensive back was selected first was in 1956 when the Pittsburgh Steelers selected safety Gary Glick.

Jeanty to Dallas is among the most popular draft pairings among analysts so far. It's an obvious fit for a Cowboys team that ranked 27th in rushing yards per game this season. Rico Dowdle, who led the team with 1,079 rushing yards in 2024, is set to become a free agent.

History has also shown that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones isn't afraid to draft a running back in the first round. He did it in 2016 when Ezekiel Elliott was selected No. 4 overall.

Jeanty's 2,601 rushing yards this season were the second-most in FBS history, just 27 yards shy from tying Barry Sanders' record set in 1988.
