As four NFL teams prepare for their respective conference championship games, the rest of the league is focused on the offseason.
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford plans to take time to think about his future. Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp knows he wants to continue his playing career.
After the Rams' divisional-round loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Kupp reflected on the season and expressed the desire to stay in Los Angeles.
"Who knows what is going to happen? A lot of stuff is out of my control," he said, per The Athletic's Jourdan Rodrigue. "We'll see (what) it's going to be. There was obviously stuff that was going on early in the season and we'll see. I don't have any clarity on what that's gonna look like. Obviously would love to be in L.A. but I don't know what that is gonna look like."
According to multiple reporters at The Athletic, the Rams spoke with teams about flipping Kupp for a second-round pick before the Nov. 5 trade deadline, and they were willing to pay a portion of his 2024 salary.
Kupp will turn 32 in June, and he's coming off another injury-riddled season in which he racked up only 59.2 receiving yards per game, his lowest average since his rookie season in 2017. The Rams could revisit trade talks with teams this offseason if they want to get younger at wide receiver.
The Rams would take on $22.3 million in dead money if they cut Kupp before June 1, which makes him a more likely trade target than a cut candidate. If they do decide to move him, the following six potential trade partners should offer a third-round pick for Kupp.
Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals could lose Tee Higgins in free agency. The 26-year-old is set to be the top wide receiver on the market.
Perhaps with that in mind, the Bengals selected wideout Jermaine Burton in the third round of the 2024 draft. However, he caught only four passes for 107 yards as a rookie.
With Higgins sidelined in Week 9, Burton was supposed to be a focal point in the game plan, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Instead, he missed the team's walkthrough on Saturday and was a healthy scratch. He also didn't travel with the team for its Week 18 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers after a woman he was dating accused him of assault but didn't press charges, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Higgins and Mike Gesicki finished second and third, respectively, among Bengals' pass-catchers in catches and receiving yards in 2024. Without them, Cincinnati doesn't have a viable complement to Ja'Marr Chase in the aerial attack.
Kupp also has ties to Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, who served as the Rams' assistant wide receivers coach in 2017. As the Bengals' primary play-caller, Taylor could see Kupp as a trustworthy veteran who fits in his offense.
The Rams wideout could be drawn to playing with Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow as Matthew Stafford contemplates his future.
Dallas Cowboys
Two years ago, the Dallas Cowboys acquired wide receiver Brandin Cooks from the Houston Texans ahead of his age-30 season. Cooks filled in the No. 2 receiver spot behind CeeDee Lamb on the depth chart.
Cooks' contract will be void in March. Even if the Cowboys are confident that Jalen Tolbert can build on his breakout third season, Kupp could be an insurance policy for a team that fielded a pass-heavy offense in 2024.
Although Dallas parted ways with head coach Mike McCarthy over a contract length dispute, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is in the mix to replace him and may carry over some principles on that side of the ball.
Regardless of the Cowboys hire as their next head coach, Kupp could be Dak Prescott's reliable short-to-intermediate target to move the chains, just as Cooks was for the last two years
Houston Texans
The Houston Texans have significant question marks at wide receiver.
Stefon Diggs, who tore his ACL in October, will be a free agent going into his age-32 season. In December, fellow wideout Tank Dell tore his ACL and dislocated his kneecap. He could miss the entire 2025 season as a result.
Since the Texans are in the midst of a win-now window, they should target a plug-and-play wide receiver in free agency or the draft. Nico Collins could see heavy coverage if the Texans don't find a complementary wideout who commands attention downfield.
Collins has done a good job of stretching defenses vertically, averaging 14.8 yards per catch. Still, Houston needs another reliable intermediate target to help quarterback C.J. Stroud get the ball out of his hands quicker for easier completions.
Stroud took the second-most sacks (52) of any quarterback this season. The Texans could protect him by strengthening their offensive line and adding a receiver who is a quick-strike option in the passing game. Kupp could fill that role.
Los Angeles Chargers
Kupp said he would love to stay in Los Angeles. If the Los Angeles Chargers are interested in him, he wouldn't have to leave SoFi Stadium.
Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman could feature Kupp in the passing game along with rookie Ladd McConkey. Roman could also use the veteran wideout as a blocker for his run-heavy offenses.
Over the past two years, Kupp took a backseat to fellow wideout Puka Nacua, who has emerged as the Rams' lead wide receiver. To his credit, he's been a willing participant in head coach Sean McVay's blocking schemes.
With the Chargers, Kupp could see more targets because of the team's lackluster group of pass-catchers and still help seal the edges for the ground game.
As a playoff team with $63.1 million in cap space, the Chargers should be open to the idea of acquiring a savvy veteran wideout who can bolster the offense in multiple phases.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers tried to acquire wideout Brandon Aiyuk last offseason, but the San Francisco 49ers signed him to an extension. They acquired Mike Williams from the New York Jets before the Nov. 5 trade deadline, but he'll be a free agent in March.
In addition to a need at wide receiver, The Athletic's Mike DeFabo suggested that the team's patience with George Pickens may be running thin.
"Giving the wideout a hefty extension would be a mistake, as Pickens' behavior has made him a lightning rod. Even Tomlin himself might be tiring of Pickens' antics. After the Steelers' Week 13 win in Cincinnati, during which Pickens was flagged twice for unsportsmanlike conduct, the coach said the wideout needed to 'grow up.'"
If the Rams are interested in a young deep-threat receiver, the Steelers may be willing to swap Pickens for Kupp and draft capital in a package deal. Alternatively, they could retain Pickens and acquire the 31-year-old to balance their receiver room.
If Pittsburgh went the latter route, it wouldn't have to be reliant on Pickens as its key source of receiving production on the perimeter. With that said, the Steelers must sort out their quarterback situation with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields set to become free agents.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could lose Chris Godwin in free agency. He will be the second-best wide receiver on the free-agent market behind Tee Higgins, so he should garnet a lot of interest despite coming off an injury-shortened campaign.
The Buccaneers have a potential in-house replacement for Godwin in rookie third-rounder Jalen McMillan, who finished second on the team in touchdown receptions (eight). With that said, Tampa Bay may want a veteran reinforcement at wide receiver to draw some coverage away from Mike Evans.
Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen worked with Kupp while he was the Rams' assistant wide receivers coach between 2018 and 2019. He was also their offensive coordinator in 2022 under head coach and play-caller Sean McVay.
The Buccaneers would need to restructure contracts to accommodate Kupp's salary. Nonetheless, this move would make sense, particularly with Coen accepting a raise to remain the offensive play-caller in Tampa Bay.
If Godwin signs elsewhere in free agency, Kupp could replace him as a receiver who can line up in the slot or outside.
