Bad Bunny Wants WWE Return as a Heel; Latest Rumors on Penta's Debut and Jade Cargill

Bad Bunny Eyes Heel Role in WWE

Even though it's been nearly two years since Bad Bunny last appeared on WWE television, he's keeping the door open for a return at some point.

In an interview with Julyssa Lopez of Rolling Stone, the rap superstar said definitively he wants to wrestle at least "one more time" and has thought about the possibility of being a heel at some point.

"But man, just like in music, I do this to get better and to do something different. Sometimes, I say, 'I'm going to quit everything and just do wrestling full time.' I feel like in wrestling, I just go sporadically as a celebrity. I'm going to go full time and be a heel. That's what I'd love. [Laughs] I was always a fan of the villains more than the good guys."

Bad Bunny's appearances have all been incredibly successful. His first appearance was in February 2021 when he defeated R-Truth to win the 24/7 title, then teamed with Damian Priest to beat John Morrison and The Miz at WrestleMania 37.

At the 2022 Royal Rumble, Bad Bunny was a surprise entrant in the men's match and was eliminated by Brock Lesnar. His last appearance was a victory over Priest in a street fight at Backlash in April 2023 in his home country of Puerto Rico.

It's difficult to imagine Bad Bunny as a heel because of his high-flying style and celebrity status, but stranger things have happened. Few people would have predicted The Rock would work as a heel again, then he found a way to turn last year during his feud with Cody Rhodes.

Talent Unhappy with Length of Penta's Debut

Penta made his long-awaited debut in WWE on Monday night, defeating Chad Gable. He also cut a promo after the match talking about his excitement to be in WWE, shouted out his family and called this the new Penta era.

Per PW Insider (h/t WrestleOps), the entire segment with Penta between the match and promo went "way longer" than it was planned and time was cut from other segments as a result, leading to some talent not being happy.

The entire segment between the match and promo lasted around 16 minutes. It's unclear exactly what had to be cut from the show, but the remaining matches were Sheamus vs. Ludwig Kaiser, Lyra Valkyria vs. Dakota Kai in the women's intercontinental title tournament final, Sami Zayn vs. Miz and street fight between Priest and Finn Bálor.

The one match that felt like it was rushed due to time was the women's intercontinental title bout, but Sheamus and Kaiser also didn't get as much time as you would expect. Those matches both went about eight minutes.

It's interesting that being on Netflix would seem to give WWE more flexibility with time, but the Monday show was only about two-and-a-half hours. The Netflix debut, by comparison, was just over three hours, and that was with an advertised Rey Mysterio tag match being cut.

Given that Penta's debut was one of the big storylines from this show, even though he wasn't technically advertised ahead of time, his segment going long isn't an issue right now. If he becomes a top guy in the near-future, no one will think about this again.

Jade Cargill Storyline Plans

Nearly two months since being taken out of action by a mystery attacker, Jade Cargill's return appears as if it is being set into motion.

Per PW Insider (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), Cargill has been working out the Performance Center for the second straight week.

The report noted WWE designed the attacker storyline to get the tag titles off Jade and Biance Belair without having to have either woman lose in order to keep both of them "strong while prepping their creative plans for WrestleMania, especially if it involves them working against each other."

The Cargill-Belair pairing always seemed designed to end with them breaking up and feuding, presumably at a WrestleMania. It will be interesting to see how they get to that match, if that's in fact the direction going forward.

In the time since Jade was taken out of action, it seems like Naomi is the one being set up as the attacker. They could potentially do an angle where Naomi physically attacked her, but Bianca was the one who set it up for whatever reason.

Bianca is so naturally likable that it's hard to envision her as a heel, but this could be a way to shake up her character, especially since Rhea Ripley is the top babyface on the women's side on either brand. They also have Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair likely returning soon, presumably as babyfaces just because of how long they've been out of action.

A heel version of Bianca Belair could feud with all of those women, depending on which brand she ends up on if there's a draft later this year. This would also allow Jade to get a huge singles push after spending most of her WWE run thus far working in tag matches.
