Eight teams are left in the 2025 NFL playoff bracket following Wild Card Weekend. We're now down to 16 potential Super Bowl LIX matchups heading into the divisional round.
Not all Super Bowl pairings are created equal, though. Some would be far more exciting and intriguing than others due to the stars, history and other factors that go into creating an iconic clash.
With that in mind, we've ranked each potential Super Bowl LIX matchup based on things such as roster strength, recent head-to-head results, rivalry dynamics, team popularity and potential storylines to follow during the buildup to the game.
16. Commanders vs. Texans
The Commanders and Texans have the longest odds in their respective conferences of making the Super Bowl.
Having both defy the odds by going on a run might make for a fun storyline leading up to the big game, but the on-field product would be a bit lackluster relative to the other potential Super Bowl matchups since neither team has been elite this season.
15. Rams vs. Texans
The Texans were one of the preseason darlings after a big offseason building around second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud, but they haven't quite lived up to the hype yet. Stroud will have to shake off his sophomore slump and tap into that rookie magic to propel Houston to a Super Bowl appearance.
The Rams just destroyed Sam Darnold in the Wild Card Round and showed their defense is Super Bowl-caliber, but it remains to be seen if their offense can get the job done over the next two weeks.
14. Lions vs. Texans
Just as they did all season, the Dan Campbell-led Lions proved their mettle and toughness during a Week 10 win over the Texans. Detroit battled back from a 16-point halftime deficit to escape Houston with a 26-23 victory.
It's unlikely the score would be as close the second time around, especially considering Lions quarterback Jared Goff threw an uncharacteristic five interceptions in that game.
13. Commanders vs. Chiefs
This matchup would feature a Commanders team reaching its first Super Bowl since 1991 on the heels of its first playoff victories since 2005 during its first postseason appearance since 2020. They'd be going against a Chiefs team that has appeared in every postseason since 2015 and has missed the Super Bowl only once since 2019.
If Washington somehow dethroned Kansas City, it could mark the start of a new dynasty.
12. Eagles vs. Texans
Despite winning their division and a Wild Card Round game, the Texans still aren't getting much respect. They may have to tap into the same underdog mentality that propelled the 2017 Eagles to a shocking upset of the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII to reach the big game.
The Eagles would almost certainly be heavily favored in this matchup.
11. Rams vs. Ravens
The last two Rams vs. Ravens matchups have been fascinating. These teams met two times between the 2022-23 campaigns, and both were decided by a single score. The most recent edition needed overtime for the Ravens to avenge their one-point defeat the prior year.
Expect a great coaching chess match between John Harbaugh and Sean McVay if this rubber match comes to fruition.
10. Eagles vs. Ravens
The Eagles boasted one of the league's top rushing attacks during the regular season, and they'll need to keep Saquon Barkley firing on all cylinders to get to the Super Bowl. If they meet the Ravens there, it won't be easy to keep pace versus the NFL's top-ranked run defense. They'd also have to figure out how to stop Derrick Henry, Lamar Jackson and Co. for a second time within a three-month span.
Philadelphia won a tight 24-19 game against the Ravens at the beginning of December thanks to Barkley slightly outperforming Henry. However, it wouldn't be easy to replicate that feat when the action shifts to the Superdome.
9. Commanders vs. Bills
The Bills trounced the Commanders 37-3 when they faced off last September. But much has changed for Washington since then, most notably the rise of star rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Daniels' ability to keep pace with the Bills' Josh Allen-led offense could make this a fun back-and-forth bout.
8. Commanders vs. Ravens
The Battle of the Beltway could take center stage in Super Bowl LIX.
While these teams don't have a fierce rivalry despite their geographic proximity, it could quickly become one with more close games—especially with the Lombardi Trophy on the line—like their 30-23 bout from Week 6.
7. Rams vs. Chiefs
This matchup has some parallels to the Rams-Chiefs classic in 2018—which L.A. won 54-51—even if most of the players from that game are no longer with their respective teams.
Hopefully it's more like that than their last meeting, a forgettable 26-10 Chiefs victory in 2022 over a Rams squad that was far less dangerous than the current group.
6. Lions vs. Ravens
Expect fireworks if this winds up being the Super Bowl LIX matchup. The Lions and Ravens boasted two top offenses of this season, averaging a combined 834.5 yards per game.
While their respective defenses fared well enough during the regular season, it's hard to imaging either side stopping the other in what could be an absolute barnburner. It would be shocking if the score was anywhere near as lopsided as the 38-6 result in Baltimore's favor the last time these teams met early in the 2023 campaign.
5. Eagles vs. Bills
Josh Allen vs. Jalen Hurts for all the marbles would make for a dream quarterback Super Bowl matchup. These elite dual-threat signal-callers would lay it all on the line to win their first championship.
Hurts had a slight edge in their last meeting midway through the 2023 season, a game in which his five total touchdowns helped beat out Allen's four scores in a 37-34 overtime nailbiter.
4. Rams vs. Bills
Matthew Stafford is trying to wind down his Hall of Fame career with a second Super Bowl ring, while Josh Allen is looking to cement his status as one of the best quarterbacks of his generation with his first championship. That alone makes for a great story, but these two teams also duked it out in one of the most thrilling contests of the 2024 season in early December.
A rematch of that 44-42 Rams victory being played out on the biggest stage could easily surpass the hype.
3. Eagles vs. Chiefs
A rematch of Super Bowl LVII would make for not only a fun storyline, but almost certainly another exciting clash on the field. The Eagles came up just short of pushing the Chiefs to overtime two years ago, but they did get a modicum of revenge with a 21-17 victory during the regular season last year.
Philadelphia looks even more formidable this time around thanks to its brilliant free-agent pickup of Saquon Barkley. With the former New York Giants star now leading the backfield, the Eagles could break through to capture their first title since 2017.
2. Lions vs. Chiefs
Who doesn't want to see the top team from each conference duke it out for the Lombardi Trophy? Both of the No. 1 seeds boast top-tier offenses and defenses, giving this perhaps the best chance of any potential Super Bowl LIX matchup to be remembered as a legendary contest.
The Lions put the league on notice last year, spoiling Kansas City's banner-raising ceremony in Week 1 with a 24-23 victory. Detroit did miss out on a chance to deny the Chiefs from becoming the first back-to-back champs since the 2003-04 Patriots after flaming out in the NFC Championship Game, but the lessons learned from that collapse will help them in their quest to make their first-ever Super Bowl.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs would have a chance to make NFL history of their own. They'd leave everything on the field as they try to become the first NFL team ever to threepeat.
1. Lions vs. Bills
This is the matchup most NFL fans probably want to see—at least if their favorite team gets eliminated from Super Bowl contention.
Neither of these star-crossed franchises have ever won a Super Bowl, although the Bills came excruciatingly close on several occasions throughout the 1990s. The Lions haven't even won a conference championship since the 1950s, making them lovable losers who few would mind finally breaking through under head coach Dan Campbell.
These teams already met in mid-December and scored a combined 90 points in a narrow Bills victory. A repeat of that shootout would make for a truly iconic Super Bowl, one that will finally end the misery of one long-suffering fanbase.
