Unsettled Division Titles

Three division championships are yet to be decided entering Week 18 of the NFL season, heightening the stakes of the regular season's final slate of match-ups.

The most prominent is the NFC North, where one team will finish the season with 15 wins and a division crown while the other finishes with 14 and goes on the road for the first week of the postseason.

The Detroit Lions host the Minnesota Vikings Sunday night in what is the highest-stakes game to this point in the season.

Can the home team, so dominant throughout the season thanks to the intense and aggressive coaching style of head coach Dan Campbell and MVP-level play of quarterback Jared Goff, emerge with the NFC North title for the second, consecutive season, or will Sam Darnold and the unexpectedly great Vikings ruin that story and seize the championship for themselves?

Over in the AFC North, the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers are still vying for the division title, though the latter may not have much to play for by the time they take the field against the Cincinnati Bengals.

A win for Baltimore gives them the crown and sends Pittsburgh, once the No. 2 seed, on the road to start the postseason. An inexplicable loss to a bad Cleveland Browns squad, though, and the Steelers can wrap things up with a win.

The NFC South is also up for grabs, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the drivers seat.

A win against a Saints team that was shut out in Week 17 and quarterback Baker Mayfield returns his squad to the playoffs for the second season. A loss and an Atlanta Falcons win over the Carolina Panthers, though, and rookie Michael Penix will guide his upstart team to a first-round home playoff game.

Anything can and usually does happen but at least two of the scenarios feel fairly easy to predict.

The Ravens have struggled against the Browns before (7-6 against Cleveland since Lamar Jackson entered the league) but with so much riding on this one and Jackson looking to avenge last year's AFC Championship loss by making it to the Super Bowl, look for them to put the game out of hand early.

Ditto for the Buccaneers.

Mayfield is having one of his best seasons ever and a fairly one-sided victory should be expected against a Saints team that lacks firepower with both Alvin Kamara and Kendre Miller out for New Orleans on Sunday.

The Lions-Vikings match-up is tougher to predict.

Detroit won the first meeting, barely, but is the home team and facing considerable expectations. They feel like the right choice here, but the team's defensive holes could be problematic if Darnold can exploit them early.
