Report: RB Justice Haynes Expected to Transfer to Michigan After Alabama Exit

Zach Bachar

Former Alabama running back Justice Haynes is expected to transfer to Michigan, according to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz.

Haynes will now reportedly join the Wolverines with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

He made his decision to enter the transfer portal on Dec. 13 after starting six games for the Crimson Tide during the 2024 season.

Haynes was previously a 5-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings.

The 20-year-old was deciding between multiple schools as a transfer, with Michigan remaining an option throughout the process. According to Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong of On3.com, Haynes visited Mississippi on Dec. 17 and South Carolina on Dec. 19 before traveling to Ann Arbor over the weekend.

His final two options were the Wolverines and Gamecocks, per Nakos.

Haynes split carries with Jam Miller in the backfield for the Crimson Tide in 2024. In 12 games, he picked up 448 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground while averaging 5.7 yards per carry.

He also served as an option in the pass game, finishing with 17 catches for 99 yards.

Now, he'll be expected to compete with Jordan Marshall for the top spot on the depth chart in Michigan. Marshall was primarily utilized as a kick returner for the Wolverines, but he's in line for a larger role in 2025 following the impending departures of Kalel Mullings and Donovan Edwards.

Landing Haynes is a step in the right direction for head coach Sherrone Moore, as Michigan attempts to improve upon a 7-5 record in his first year patrolling the sidelines.

The running back is the latest addition to a transfer class that also includes players such as former Alabama defensive tackle Damon Payne Jr., former Fresno State quarterback Mikey Keene and former Indiana wide receiver Donaven McCulley.
