Tiger Woods Calls Charlie's Hole-in-One at PNC Championship 'a Thrill of a Lifetime'

The father-son duo of Tiger and Charlie Woods came oh-so-close to winning the PNC Championship on Sunday, finishing Sunday's second round at 28 under and in a tie for first place with Team Langer.

Bernhard Langer's eagle putt on the first playoff hole clinched the win for Team Langer, but it was a magical day for the Woods nonetheless, and one that included Charlie Woods' first-ever hole-in-one.

"That was the thrill of a lifetime to be able to have that moment with Charlie, make his first hole-in-one, [daughter] Sam on the bag, just our family and friends," Tiger Woods told reporters after the round. "That's what this event is about. It's about bonding and family."

"That's one of the highlights that we've ever had," he added. "We were talking about earlier, on the hole previous, he made his first eagle. And now he just made his first hole-in-one. So it was a magical two-hole stretch. I'm just so happy for him, and for the enjoyment we had as a family."

Both son and father enjoyed the golf on Sunday, regardless of the final result.

"It was awesome," Charlie Woods said. "No one made a mistake today. So that was the most fun I've ever had. And then on top of that, I made an ace. I don't think I can top that. It was awesome."

Tiger concurred.

"It was a lot of fun, as Charlie said. It was back and forth, no one made a mistake today," he noted. "We had to earn it. And that was the joy of it."

Langer was equally impressed with the younger Woods' ace, and his play in general.

"It was fun to see the two of them out there together. And when Charlie made that hole-in-one, I've never seen Tiger happier than [that]," he said. "It was a fantastic moment and a thrill for us to be a part of it and spectating. ... I'm convinced they're going to win this several times in the near future. They're just too good. I mean, Charlie bombs it and he's got the whole game. He putts great, and we know what Tiger can do."

Tiger and Charlie have now made five appearances at the PNC Championship, with one second-place finish and a tie for second place in 2021. Those are their best finishes to date, though as Langer noted, a PNC Championship victory is likely in their future.
