Tiger Woods, Son Charlie Tied for 1st After Strong 1st Round at 2024 PNC Championship

Tiger and Charlie Woods are off to a fantastic start at the PNC Championship.

The father-son duo shot an impressive 13-under 59 on Saturday in the first round of the event, putting them in a tie for first place with Team Langer and Team Singh, and in an excellent position to win the 36-hole tournament on Sunday.

Team Lehman and Team Harrington are just one stroke behind in second place.

The Woods' duo was consistently excellent on Saturday, with 13 birdies and no bogeys.

The PNC Championship uses the scramble format, where both players hit tee shots, choose the best shot, and continue each taking a shot and choosing the best option until the hole is complete. That tends to keep the scores low, and Saturday was no exception.

And the Woods' pair benefitted from some fantastic shots by both father and son:

It was a family affair all around, as Tiger's daughter, Sam, was on the bag:

This was Tiger and Charlie's fifth showing together at the PNC Championship. Their best result was a tie for second place in 2021, while they finished tied for fifth last year.

The elder Woods hasn't played much in 2024 due to injuries, which included a September microdiscectomy.

"I'm not competitive right now," he told reporters on Friday. "But I just want to be able to have the experience again."

"Yeah, my leg is what it is," he added. "It's still here, and it is what it is. But this year I struggled a lot with my back, and it's a lot better, but I still have a long way to go."
